Boma for people who do NOT like spicy food?

My DH and I wanted to try some foods we've never had on our upcoming trip to Disney. We have reservations for Boma, but now I'm beginning to wonder how much there is that I can eat. My tummy can't handle spicy foods AT ALL, and my husband prefers food that is not spicy.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for foods we should be sure to try that are not spicy as well as some of the ones we should be sure to avoid.

None of the food is particularly over spiced, and there are lots of choices that are quite plain. Our 2 year old loved it there. :)

DH isn't much for spicy and HATES buffets. Boma is one of his favorite meals now. There are a lot of options and some are spiced for flavor, not spiced as in hot.

I wasn't even aware there was spicy food at Boma! It's good to know that there aren't many spicy foods because MIL hates spicy foods!

There are only a few things with extra "heat", like the Potatoes with Afritude. But those aren't very spicy. (And other things, like Pap, are positively bland.) Just ask at the buffet if you're not sure if something's beyond your capacity. The great thing is, if you don't like a particular dish, you're not stuck with it and can go get something else.

Remember, the buffet rotates daily so some dishes people mention won't necessarily be out there.

The only really spicy thing at Boma that I've had was this sauce that you get at the beef carving station and it was VERY obvious that it was spicy!

"Spicy" is not really an accurate word for the food at Boma. The food there has different "seasonings" than what most of us are used to, but it's not Tex-Mex style spicy.

This sum's it up best - my DH dislikes mexican and other spicy food - very plain eater. Boma is his absolute favorite! They have so many foods to choose from, you will not be disappointed. The salads are great! The steak meats are not seasoned but the sauces are... I encourage you to give it a try!:earsboy:

I agree!! It is definitley not the "hot type spicey" that I was thinking of before my first time there. The seasonings are just different than what we were used to. However, it turned out to be one of the best meals we ate!! Loved it! And there was plenty to choose from, so that everyone (even the picky eaters in out group) left full and happy! I would say definitley try it!!

I found the food to me more sweet than spicy.

Hi
I really agree with this. My friend and I ate at Boma in December and we didn't care for it. I know we're in the minority, since most people like it. I'm veggie so I was really looking forward to it. I didn't find anything spicy. The rice had raisins in it and the food was just warm, bordering on cold. I like food that is supposed to be hot, to be hot. You might really love the food there. I would give it a try. It's definitely not spicy.:goodvibes

My daughter can't stand spicy food and she loved Boma! There are five of us with very different tastes in food and we all liked Boma.

We found many things on the dinner buffet too seasoned for our tastes.

However, the breakfast buffet is incredible!!! I need some Frunch!!!

Thank you all so much for the responses! Now I'm looking forward to Boma more than ever! :cool1:

I guess so, I've never eaten that, but it looks similar, IIRC. Pap just didn't have any taste at all, and had the consistency of spackle.

I wouldn't worry about it. We found the food at Boma rather bland and not at all spicy. The only spices we tasted were a cinnamon flavor that seemed to be in a lot of the dishes we tried. We were not impressed at all with the place. A variety of spices would have actually helped the food, IMO.

Is Pap anything like couscous! Now that is vile!!

Pap is not like couscous, it's more like grits. Couscous is basically very tiny pasta; not sure what made it vile for you. :confused3

I don't know what day of the week you ate there, but I didn't even remotely notice that at both our dinners. I was even looking for it, as I'd read it in a review or two before we went. Of course, I didn't eat any meat, but I tried everything that was vegetarian except the salad and some desserts. DH (the omnivore) didn't notice either. In fact, I found the food to be quite varied in flavor, and most recent reviews don't mention everything having the same spice. It seems very strange that some think this is so; even the recipes listed out there on various sites (and Boma has tons out there) don't show similar flavors used in most dishes.

I have only been once, but I did not like the spices that were on the food. Although nothing was too hot and spicy, a lot of the dishes were prepared with curry and coconut. I am not a huge fan of either. I would not go there again for dinner, unless perhaps I was staying at the AKL for convenience.
