We have ADRs for Boma at dinnertime this trip. It will be our first time. Generally, I like a variety of items, but probably won't be able to sample everything. What items from the buffet do you recommend and why?

Thanks!!

We were there last week and we started with a plate of hummus and flat bread which was excellent. Then we sampled the soups and salads. The soups are especially good. The sliced meats were pretty good. Then menu changes depending on what day you go but overall we found this to be a really fun place for dinner.

Ok let's see. Definitely try some of the soups. I think that they had different soups both times that I was there and I tried about 2 each time (out of I think 4). They were really good.

The sliced meats are awesome! OK, let's be honest, for the sliced meats I stayed mostly with the prime rib! But that is because I love prime rib!

Then for the sides, I tried a variety of items.

OK, definitely save room for dessert. In addition to the Zebra domes, if I remember properly there was some type of chocolate mousse that had some alcohol in it. This mousse was incredible!

They change the food sometimes.

The prime rib is very good. There is some varying sauces for you to take with it. They vary in Spicyness, from tangy to fire engine. The chef cuttting the beef will tell you which is which.

The FuFu is very good. (Mashed Sweet Potato like)

Be sure to get a soup. They will have 3 variaties.. I like the Carrot/Mango type soups. They usually have one like that. They will have some sort of Gumbo too. My parents usually get that.

I take a small salad with Mango Vinaigrette and I get some flatbread and hummus. (balanced meal.. hehe)

BTW: I have a big sweet tooth, and a lot of the flavors have a sweetness and tangyness to them. Which is why this is my favorite restaurant.

 Take a little of anything that looks interesting, don't be afraid to go up 3/4/5 times.

Save room for Dessert, they are very good too.

There is more that I eat than is listed here, but I don't know the name of it all.

Enjoy your dinner. I am eating there on Thursday night. I can't wait.:yay:

My goodness....it sounds all so tasty. We will be there in September (we switched from Liberty Tree Tavern to Boma to give it a try).

:thumbsup2

We just tried this place for the first time at the beginning of March. We absolutely loved this restaurant. The food is amazing and you will find something you will like. I was scared because of all the curry but it was fantastic. I loved the hummus with sundried tomatoes, the prime rib was so tender and well done to my preference, the mousse and fruit. You can't go wrong with this meal. The salades are to dye for too. My 3 kids also loved this place. Enjoy and have fun eating:banana:

This is our first meal of every trip. We didn't go at first because we don't do buffets but decided to try it and now never miss it for the first night. We do this on purpose because after travelling across the country, we are starving when we get there and that's the best time to go to BOMA. I love the prime rib with the mustard sauce. It's the best prime rib I've ever had anywhere. Out of the soups, I like the curried coconut one the best. Just be careful on the soups, they are very filling. I try to just get a little because I love to sample and its too easy to fill up on those soups. The flatbreads are excellent, especially if you like hummus. I also like the green beans and there's a pasta salad I really enjoy.

Make sure to save room for the dozen or so different mini desserts that are there. Most people rave over the zebra domes but they are my least favorite there. I prefer the ones with fruit so that I can get those 5 food groups in. :rotfl:

Most everything was great. But most surprising to me was the something that was the simplest to make. Fruit in a creamy yogurt (maybe) cool whip.
It was delicious! I don't remember what fruits other than lots of blueberries.
I'll be back at Boma in 10 days! I'm starving myself now so I'll be ready to eat everything!:yay:

I wasn't wowed by dessert at Boma, so I say skip it and keep on grazing!

Salmon, soups, breads, veggies, sweet potato dish, salads, the list goes on. This was the one place where I definitely stuffed myself. Good news is we left there and went to Illuminations and MK EMH, so I had plenty of time and walking to work it off!

Boma is now a must do for us.

Try just a tiny bit of everything that looks interesting to you. If you don't care for it, then try something else -- there are zillions of choices, and you are sure to find some great things :goodvibes We loved the carrot-ginger soup, and a lot of the unusual side dishes...not even sure what some of them were! :rotfl2: But the carrot-ginger soup was :cloud9: So good I've tried to replicate it at home...come close, but not quite as good as Boma...

I think the only reason my DH goes to WDW is to be able to go to Boma!
He loves the soups! Our upcoming trip in October, asked him about ADR's, he said all he cares about is Boma-easy guy to please. Told him about DVC AKL and asked if he'd like to stay and he could have Boma 3x a day-said na, they'd have to roll him outta there and then endure the bright flouescent orange sticker on the plane that said HEAVY (as in heavy luggage).

Take a little of all and find your favorites! You're paying for it..

Nope.. Only twice a day.. they aren't open for Lunch. :rotfl:

And Breakfast is pretty standard fare... Its Dinner thats super awesome.:cool1:

We are staying at DVC AKL this September. Should I get an ADR, or will I be able to get a ressie when we get there?

You should get an ADR. Especially if you don't want to eat at 8:30pm.
There have been a few times I have tried to get in there on the same day and there was no availability.

Ahhhhhh, Boma!!! Fruit Fool is fresh fruit in a sweet, white sauce -- practically dessert. Potatoes with Afritude are great spicy potato slices. We also love the rice dishes and soups. My husband favors Butternut Squash and I like the gumbo. There are several terrific cold salads. For dessert, we like the little fruit tarts and banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce.

The soup selection and the salads are MORE than enough to fill a person. I can eat a slab of meat anytime (though their prime rib IS good!), so I tend to graze on the soups and salads and then onto the dessert table. They have little, tiny pastries with fresh fruits on top--OH MY GOD:scared1: I could eat my weight in those little bites of heaven:wizard:

We loved the carrot-ginger soup. (It) was so good I've tried to replicate it at home and come close, but not quite as good as Boma.

This purports to be the actual recipe:

Ginger Carrot Soup
from Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge

1 lb peeled Carrots, chunky cut
2 cup Water
2 cup Heavy cream
1 cup Milk
2 oz American cheese, sliced or shredded
½ oz Ground ginger (fresh only)
2 oz Sugar, adjust as needed

Roux:
2 oz Butter
2 oz Flour

In a pot cook carrots in water, sugar, and ginger. Let simmer until carrots are soft. Using a beurre mixer, puree until smooth.

To make the roux, melt the butter in a small sauce pot, slowly add the flour to make a paste. Cook and stir until incorporated. Remove from heat and set aside.

Add heavy cream and roux to pureed carrots. Cook until soup is hot and slightly thick.

Add American cheese and let simmer until cheese melts. Adjust seasonings.
Yield: 8 servings

(The recipe doesn't say when to add the milk, but I'd add it with the heavy cream.)

Could anyone recommend things to try there that aren't sweet tasting? I ate there last year and almost everything I tried had a sweet taste to it. I pretty much had hummus and bread for dinner.(they weren't sweet, and were quite tasty) After a blistering hot day in the parks, I just couldn't handle all that sweetness. I really wasn't planning on going back this year but my DS wants to try it, so I gave in for him. Anyone know what items I should look for?

My mother who likes salt more than sweet, says try the herb crusted salmon.
