More Boma fans here

We try and make a point of eating at Boma each trip and have never had a bad meal there. There are a variety of salads (the watermelon and Moroccan seafood salads are great), meats (roasted chicken, salmon and prime rib) and of course all the desserts (especially the zebra domes).

Saying that, I wouldn't base your decision to go on what any of us say - it's all very subjective to the individual. If you think you'd like to try Boma based on their menu, then try it. What one person dislikes, you may find you like and vice versa. If you don't try it, you'll never know if you like the food or not.

I went to Boma for the first time last month and loved it. There is so much
to choose from I would be surprised if you couldn't find something you liked.
If you just sample a few things at a time, small portions, the plate won't look
messy. As my mother always says, "Don't let your eyes be bigger than your
stomach!".

Myself, wife, and 5 year old daugher all love Boma. We have made it a point to eat there on each of our trips at least once, and already have ADR's for our coming trip in April

The atmosphere is great, the food and service wonderful, and there are MORE than enough choices for any type of palette.

I'm not a Boma fan. But it could have been the fact that I ate there towards the end of my vacation when I was so sick of eating out every meal for a week. I was just kinda done with restaurant food at that point. I ate off the kids buffet mostly. I did have some soup which was ok. The salad even turned my stomach, just didn't look right.
I would give Boma dinner another chance if my family really really wanted to go there. With so many other choices I hope that I don't have to make that happen for awhile.

We liked it so much we booked a second dinner for our last night of the trip. But not everyone loves it. Nobody really knows if they will love it or hate it until they try it for themselves.

WE just got back frow WDW and tried a lot of differnt restraunts this time, one of them was Bomas.

Let me first say you are right, IT IS SOME DIFFERENT KIND OF FOOD

My family seems to be a lot like the OP, we love Ohana's, Liberty tree, etc.

And Bomas was nice, it was ok, I mean, well...we didn't starve.

The food I'm sure tasted exactly like it was suppossed to, and for many that's great, but it just wasn't for us. There were a few highlights, the meat, especially the ribs were excellent. The dessert was pretty good, but the rest of it... well, like I said the ribs were really good.

our first & second times: DH disliked it (not enough americanized food), to DS it was "just okay", DD & i loved it.
a few more visits (with some combo of 2 of us), now both DD & i are not as enthralled as before. the more unusual has been replaced with the more mundane, foods less spicy & "interesting", etc imho. (btw, it is just no longer our favorite, but still worth an occasional visit to us)
so, the more current boma would def appeal to DH, the previous did to DD & me....... lol
sooooo, one of those "you'll have no idea until you get there" places , but definately worth at least one visit to find out
& either way, the lodge is stunning!!

Yuck, yuck and thrice yuck! I absolutely hated Boma. We have done it twice now and arent picky eaters. In fact we love lots of ethnic foods. The soup which was a bowl of foul water and sausage was inedible. The prime rib (which I know can be fatty) was just fat and gristle and the desserts a total let down. Topped off with poor service for a second time, we never want to go again. I went the second time because I thought my experience was a one off but the second time was even worse.

This is EXACTLY how we felt. We went several years ago and didn't like it. I figured maybe our taste buds had changed, so we tried it again in December. This time we hated it even more. I'd much rather spend our $ at Ohana or almost any other restaurant at Disney.

Here's a way to try it before you pay for it - take the AKL Culinary Tour (I forget - 3pm or 4pm every day). They walk you around Boma & Jiko & explain all the different dishes & what is in them. They also give you free samples. It's a great way to feel it out before you go. Make an ADR for right after the tour, and just cancel it if you feel it's not for you. There's always The Mara food court right next door if you don't want to brave it out at Boma. I loved loved loved Boma & will go back every trip, it's my favorite place to eat in all of WDW.

Hi Tara! This is the first I've heard of this and would like to try it. We'll be leaving in 7 days for the AKL. Do we need reservations for this and is there a cost for the tour itself?

The Culinary Tour is for AKL resort guests - I think - BUT they never once asked or checked if I was a guest there. You don't sign up in advance. You just show up at the podium at Jiko at 3:45 & they start the tour at 4. You could always call the front desk at AKL that morning or the day before to double check. We had a 6pm ADR for Boma & I was so glad I had taken the tour that day so I could tell DH & DSs what they were choosing from. I enjoyed everything on the buffet that I tried except for a soup with sausage in it (I'm not a fan of sausage, not sure why I wanted to try it) and the zebra domes! Yes I know I'm in the minority on that one. I don't care for white chocolate, or truffles, or liquer in my dessert, and that was all in the zebra dome!

Um, I'm pretty sure there are not any truffles in the zebra domes. Disney would never use something so expensive on a buffet.

My hubby and son LOVED the Zebra Domes... me not so much! What I did love... the Flan! Yummy!

I am considering booking Boma, but if I'm being honest, pictures of the food looks like a mess thrown on a plate.

I can't help but think that since it's a buffet, anyone looking at a "mess on the plate" would have no one to blame but themselves

I haven't (yet) eaten there, but with most buffets on property, you've always got the kids items (chicken fingers, mac and cheese, or similar items) to fall back on if you find you really don't like the other stuff.
