Ok so we are a family of 5 the smallest being 1 and the two older children are not so adventurous eaters! We are on the dp and staying at akl.

Here's my 2 questions:

Breakfast or Dinner

Do I really need a reservation? I ask because I always see availability on the app and prefer to not have all my adrs preplanned.

We love Boma for breakfast and go there multiple times during our stays.I think breakfast would be better for picky eaters, there are all the goodies kids love for breakfast...pancakes,cereal, waffles, eggs, donuts and some fun different stuff for the more adventurous. If I remember correctly dinner does offer a little kids section but I don't remember what was there. My recommendation is breakfast and in regards to reservations, we always make them so we know we're all set.

I did both breakfast and dinner and feel that both are great options for families w/picky eaters. There is regular food options at both. I would make ADRs if you want to eat at popular times because it does get busy.

We love both, and have picky eaters in the family. If you weren't already staying at AKL I would suggest Breakfast to have good time to view the animals. Since you are staying at AKL, I would suggest dinner. The Breakfast, while still having some African choices, is a lot more standard then the dinner. I think the dinner menu gives you lots of interesting items to choose from, while still offering more standard items for picky eaters. And the soups are wonderful, as well as the Humus bar.

As for reservations, I would make them. The wait without can be long, and there is always the chance of them not being able to accommodate you. But it also really depends on when you go, and how crowded the parks/resorts are. If you go in January, you have a better chance of not needing an ADR. If you go during Thanksgiving weekend, you will not get in without one.

I say both! My DH is a picky eater and he has loved the breakfast for years. The trip we just returned from we tried dinner for the first time and loved it. DH liked it so much we canceled a dinner for another night so he could eat there twice! I do think you should make a reservation as it can get pretty busy even during slower times. We had a wait with reservations for dinner, but for breakfast I was able to change our time the night before for a later time as we wanted to sleep in.

Thanks guys, I'm so indecisive on this one! Usually I know exactly what we're going to do but this trip is short and relaxed and so up in the air lol. I have literally changed this reservation at least 5x, from breakfast to dinner and back!! That's why I was hoping it was one of the restaurants that is doable without an adr

We love BOMA breakfast...it's the ONE ADR my DH requested me to get. Something for everyone.

We are doing breakfast this year. We have always done dinner in the past and loved it. We are going to give Jiko a try for dinner this time. I can tell you that the dinner buffet at Boma has a wide variety of dishes and it is delicious.

My suggestion would be to book breakfast and plan on it, then if you decide you want dinner to try to get an ADR while you are there. While it wouldn't be 100% guaranteed, it seems like every time I look there is at least some availability for Boma for dinner. We've only been once and it was for dinner and we seem to be in the minority that we weren't super impressed with it. I wouldn't pay that much $ for dinner again, but I also don't feel that any of the dinner buffets/aycte meals would be worth it to us. That said, I've scoured reviews of the breakfast and it looks fantastic and would have lots for everyone from not-so-adventurous eaters right to those who are willing to try different foods. We loved our stay at AKL and we definitely plan to go back sometime. Our Xmas trip we are staying offsite (for the first time) as we are traveling with DH's family and renting a house together, but the 7 of us who are still there for Xmas Day are going for brunch at AKL and very much looking forward to it.
