We don't have any meals planned for the day we are at AK. Would you recommend going to Boma for bkfst or dinner? The food for bkfst looks like food my kids will definitely eat but since the park closes relatively early I thought a stop at Animal Kingdom lodge might be a nice way to end the day. Also how much time should we allow to get from the lodge to the park or vice versa?

I'm guessing from your sig your staying at BWI, so I would plan on a 20 minute bus ride for transit time.
I would do this:

Boma for breakfast. It is in the park and if you schedule breakfast for an hour before the park opens when you get done eating your already inside the park right by the Safari. When the rope drops you'll be on the first jeep into the safari when the animals are really moving. Then make ADR for Rain Forest Cafe for dinner. Great place and a nice close tot he day. You'll have a great breakfast, get a good jump on the day and cap it off with a nice dinner.:thumbsup2

How old are you kids? Tusker House in AK is a fantastic character buffet.

As for Boma, it depends. Breakfast is pretty traditional with a few african inspired dishes. I think dinner is much more exotic and diverse. Which meal would you enjoy there?

I've never been to AKL but I would think it's fairly close to AK. I'd say 30 - 40 mins from the AK bus stop. You need to allow wait time.

Boma is located inside AKL not AK. Your thinking of Tusker House which is located near the Safari ride.

We've never been to AKL so I thought it would be fun to snoop around. Is there any place to view animals? Would it be better to be there in the morning or early evening? I think my kids (DD9 and DS8) would like the breakfast food better but I'm afraid that will cut into our park time too much. We are not early risers.

Boma breakfast is the best in all of WDW! We did not like Boma dinner at all.

We always stay at AKL and it is great. There are lots of places to view animals and it is fun to look around. I love the breakfast at Boma but that does not give you much time for looking around and exploring because you will be excited to get to the park. I like Boma for dinner but it is not as good as breakfast and if you and your family are not adventurous eaters it would not be for you. It does not take long to get from AKL to AK a quick bus ride, it all depends on how long you have to wait for a bus, so I would allow 20-30 minutes.

Our 3 kids loved Boma dinner. It was my dh's favorite meal of the whole week.

Great way to end the day but allow lots of time for travel.

Just had both breakfast and dinner at Boma this past week. Breakfast was much more traditional fair, dinner more exotic. There are still enough traditional food options at dinner to keep kids happy - the kids "buffet" was popular with kids and adults alike (nuggets, mac and cheese, ziti and meatballs). Breakfast had a couple of African items. There are tons of public spaces where you can view the animals. Go upstairs from Boma and start walking toward the back of the hotel, there are areas with rocking chairs and binoculars - in the evenings there is also a spot that has night vision but I'm not sure if that is just for hotel guests... If you are trying to maximize your day at AK I'd start there and then take the very quick 4-5 minute bus to the lodge (plus time waiting of course).

We prefer Boma dinner over Boma breakfast. We are adventurous eaters though. We also love the Tusker House breakfast and would eat there even if it was not a character meal.
