My DW and I are going to Bomas the first week of September 2008. We are excited to go and was wondering if anyone has been there and what your impressions were. Is the food way out there or is there "comfort food" that we'll recognize? What is the dress? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Dress is casual, whatever you'd wear to the parks is fine.

Food is fantastic! There are many choices, some more "different" than others. Items you'll easily recognize as "comfort food" would include the prime rib, salmon, roast chicken. A lot of the foods have a Greek flavor/influence. Our first time at Boma's our server told us there is a large Greek population in S. Africa. I love Greek food, so that was a pleasant surprise The soups, the salads, humus all very good. The desserts are ---there's also a kid section on the buffet that usually has mac & cheese, chicken strips, pasta & meatballs.

I can honestly say that I've liked most everything that I've tried there Enjoy and have a great trip!

I just have to say two things about Boma's ---------

SOUP and Humus!!!!

They are some of my favorite things at Boma's. We enjoy this place very much. Lots to choose from!

Sounds like we will be there around the same time (Aug 29-Sept 8) but this time we will be dining at Jiko! We love this place also.

I agree. We love Boma's, have had dinner there numerous times and breakfast once. We have ressies for our two upcoming trips so you see we really love it! The food is wonderful. As others have said, some "comfort" foods and some interesting African food. The desserts and YUMMY!! Also the AKL is a wonderful resort. Be sure to walk around and see everything there is to see. The African art is unreal, they have a huge collection. Most times you can see some animals. Also the store is great, lots of interesting stuff. I hope you enjoy it.

If it what I think it is then the answer is no. You mean the pot of pressed Kenya coffee? No it is extra & it is not covered by DDP. DH said it not like the "real" coffee he had when he was in Kenya for two months. The coffee in Kenya he said was better

I can tell ya the breakfast at Boma is the best one I have ever had

One dissenting opinion. I heard rave reviews about Boma before our trip so I made an ADR. While there were some "traditional" type foods, i.e. beef, pork, chicken, kids choices, we did not really care for the themed-type food. I was especially excited to try the butternut squash soup but found it way too sweet (as the other soups as well and many of the dishes). I don't consider myself a picky eater but Boma just wasn't for me. Atmosphere was fine and service.

Boma is a must do on for us on every trip! My suggestion is try a little bit of everything. You will really surprise yourself with how much you will actually enjoy. As a PP said, don't skip the soup!!!

I have to say that I was not impressed with this buffet. We were there at the end of June and it was just ok. I guess part of my issue is with buffets for dinner. I too had heard many friends who just love it but I don't think we'll be back. But everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

We love Boma. In fact it is the only buffet we care to eat at Disney. They have lots of great selections. I really love the selection of soups they have.

We also have just been to Boma. DH, Me, DS-11, DS-15. June 08. I had a lot of different feelings regarding Boma, with the different foods, but we had a great time. The food was good, a few different things, but hey, it a buffet, what a better way to try different foods. Make sure you get some of all the desserts. WOW. The decor' was beautiful. That was also the first time we have been to AKL. Also a beautiful hotel. If you can, go a little early and walk straight back to the viewing area of the Savannah, there were a few animals back there, but they have areas where you can just sit and watch.
It was a great night.
