We will be getting to AKL around 5 after flying in, what's the atmosphere at Boma or Sanaa? Could we (myself, DH and DS 4) comfortably be there without cleaning up first and wearing shorts/comfy clothes?
Boma, yes; it's buffet style, loud, busy, etc. Sanaa, maybe, but I'm less inclined to say yes since it's sit down table service and kind of close quarters with other tables.

I've eaten at both in comfy shorts/t-shirts after a long day at the parks. Never felt in any way uncomfortable or the need to clean up first! Since they are not signatures the majority of diners will probably be dressed the same. Either restaurant has amazing food - you can't go wrong in your choice.
You can't go wrong with Boma, so many selections, relaxed friendly environment. It is loud, as are many of the restaurants in Disney. The Zebra bites are beyond delicious, something for everyone there. It's always on my must go to places to eat. Casual is perfectly fine!
Sanaa is one of my favorite meals...and I always go in casual clothes going right from AK to AKL, I have never felt uncomfortable and everyone else were dressed the same way. Perhaps people dress up more later in the evening but I usually dine around 6-6:30 and everyone is casual.
Yes, you can dress casually at both restaurants. We prefer Sanaa, but it's only because we prefer table service as opposed to buffets, but the food is good at both!
We "dressed up" a tiny bit for Sanaa last month - husband in khakis and polo. Definitely we were among the most "dressed up" there. Shorts and comfy clothes were everywhere. I thought with it being TS it might be more dressy but that definitely was not the case. We enjoyed the menu but the restaurant was very loud which can be a good thing or not depending on one's company
I tried to squeeze in Boma on our next trip but for the cost Sanaa is too appealing. For those who like to split entrees and get more apps, Jiko is another great option.
