Boma and Jiko culinary tour

Had a treat on our recent stay at WDW...we participated in the culinary tour at Boma and Jiko. We were the only 2 on the tour and wondered why no one else was there enjoying the fun
We met the hostess at 4pm where she told us how the restaurant was built to represent Africa. We toured the buffet offerings and sampled the mushroom soup and the wonderful zebra domes!
Next we met the host from Jiko and he also told us about the African influence of the restaurant. He sat us down by the "cooking place" and served us the Taste of Africa appetizer which was an array of dips with assorted breads and house-made naan...DELICIOUS!
What a fun time we had...we hope to hear of others enjoying this fun, FREE tour

You don't sign up. Just show up at the podium at Jiko at the designated time (the activity bulletin boards in the resort will have the time, or ask the lobby concierge)

We're planning on doing this after our wine tasting in 2 weeks I'm glad to see it was enjoyable! How long did it last?

We're planning on doing this after our wine tasting in 2 weeks I'm glad to see it was enjoyable! How long did it last?

It lasted approx. 15 mins. at each restaurant...but remember that there were only the 2 of us, so it may take a bit longer for more people.
We arrived at 4pm and dinner service started at Boma promptly at 4:30pm...our ressie was for 4:35

Is this only for guests of the Animal Kingdom lodge or can anyone join?

Anyone is good to go, although if there were a large turnout, I can see where they might well give priority to AKL guests.

The one time we did it, there were only six of us. It was enough to get us to finally make a reservation at Jiko for our next trip - a dinner we really enjoyed.

We were staying at Wilderness Lodge and were just visiting AK to see the resort. We were looking at the menu and asked the hostess about the food, as this was our first time there and she invited us to take the tour.

We did this 2 years ago on our anniversary and DH and I were the only ones as well. The girl who showed us Boma wasn't very nice. She seemed put out but the guy at Jiko was wonderful. He answered any questions we had and we all had a nice chat. We tried the breads and dips and whatever was left he let us take with us. He said he'd just have to dispose of it and since we liked it he let us take it back to our room. If you can do it I'd recommend it. Especially since it's too expensive for us to go to Jiko we at least got to sample a little of their menu and see the really pretty restaurant.

I've done this twice, and what was really nice was that for the sampling, they asked if there was anything special that you wanted to try. One time I was the only one who spoke up so we tried my request, butternuit squash soup. The other time, there were only two of us and neither of us was brave enough to speak up, so we had zebra domes (that works for me!) There's now a nice culinary tour at Sanaa also.
