We dropped by MK today and decided to try BoG for lunch. It was 12:45 pm and the line was around the corner almost to Gaston's Tavern. The CM said the wait was 45 min to an hour. We decided to wait and it ended up being only about 30 minutes to the ordering podium. We were directed to order via a CM instead of the touch screen which was fine with me as it appeared it would be a smoother process.
I ordered the quinoa salad, potato leek soup, and passion fruit cream puff. DH ordered the braised pork and chocolate cupcake. We easily found a table near the "snow window." We retrieved our beverages, silverware, and condiments and shortly after our meal was delivered.
The soup was tasty but could have been a bit hotter. The quinoa salad was very light but under-seasoned and under-dressed. This could translate into tasteless, but it IS quinoa after all...
The dish is served as a bed of greens with some sliced cherry tomatoes, olives, and a few roasted potato strips. I now see that the menu stated there would be green beans and roasted peppers, but I don't recall either of those on my plate. The quinoa was pressed into a patty and served next to the salad. I enjoyed the "golden beets" that were mixed into the quinoa. I probably would NOT order this salad again unless I was dieting or not very hungry. Thank goodness I had also ordered the soup!
DH lit into his braised pork like he hadn't eaten for a week. He sounded like a neanderthal...grunting his satisfaction while I was sitting there drooling. He did share a few bites and it WAS good but almost too salty (especially compared to my under-seasoned salad). However when I mentioned this to DH he admitted adding salt to it, so it probably was fine in its original state. It was served in a bowl with green beans and mashed potatoes. I could be convinced to try this in the future!
DH's chocolate cupcake was good, according to him. I cannot confirm as he gobbled it all down without offering me a taste. My passion fruit cream puff was perfect. The pastry was light but crispy on the outside, filled with a creamy filling of fruity goodness and topped with a bit of whipped cream and a little square of chocolate. I loved it.
We loved the atmosphere and will definitely go again. Eating lunch on real china and using real silverware is a nice treat. I would like to try the steak sandwich, turkey sandwich or braised pork next time.
