Does anyone have the BodyBugg, the gadget all the contestants wear on the Biggest Loser? It is supposed to monitor how many calories you burned to compare with how many you've consumed. I was wondering if anyone that has it likes it?

It looks like no one has taken that step. I'd love to know how anyone who has it feels about it too.

I love gadgets but don't see me spending for it just yet.

I was looking for it on Drug Store. com Even hoping it could be bought with FSA $$. Couldn't find it anywhere on the site.

I know it was for sale on the 24hour fitness site. I think it was $200. I also saw used ones on ebay. But I'm curious if it's worth it.

I just ordered one yesterday. I have lost 50 pounds on my own and sort of lost my motivation after getting laid off in November. Now that I've found another job and the holidays are almost over, I can't even convince myself I have any excuses left, so I was hoping a new gadget would re-engage my interest.

I will report back after using it for awhile. I've read quite a few reviews and blogs on the subject. I'm a numbers-oriented person (an accountant) and I think having some concrete data to work with will be beneficial for my own motivation.

I have been eyeing this up for a while but haven't made the plunge yet. I would love to get one but am waiting until someone else posts feedback about it. I am such an impulse shopper when it comes to stuff like this.

Where did you order it from?
Thanks,

I ordered it from the 24 Hour Fitness website. Just based on my experience so far, I'd say to go somewhere else... the tracking number they sent me doesn't work, they don't respond to emails about it, and they don't have a phone number listed on their website for problems. It's only been a week since I got my shipment confirmation and Christmas was in the middle of that so it's possible it's still in transit (supposedly sent UPS), but I have no idea if they even really shipped it and no way to ask.

I was hoping to have it for the first of the year, but who knows at this point.

Thanks for the update. I hope you get it delivered soon without problems. I am always nervous ordering over the internet.

Almost same story. DH ordered me one for Christmas on 12/13....guaranteed delivery. Received the free box of 100 cal pk chips & the extra monitor, but the bugg is supposedly backordered. No communication & havent received. I'm BUMMED!!!!

I got my BodyBugg and have been wearing it for 4 days. I have generally sensitive skin but the band doesn't bother me at all - it doesn't have to be on tight at all, and I forget it's there after about 5 minutes. I keep it on pretty much 24 hours a day except when showering.

First the positives on having more information - even after these few days, it is painfully clear that I have a very sedentary lifestyle as I watch the graphs online. I have an office job in a small building in the frozen tundra of Minnesota, so I have absolutely nowhere to walk during the day. On these days, I burn about 2000 calories (I'm a woman, 5'4, 193 pounds, and 27 years old). This definitely gets me motivated to find more ways to be active.

On New Year's Day, I didn't have to work and spent the day with the family. We went to the zoo, out grocery shopping and for a walk at the Mall of America - nothing too strenuous, just more active than sitting at a desk all day. On that day, I burned 2500 calories - obviously a huge difference!

I have not yet made it to the gym with my BodyBugg but I hope to this weekend to compare my heart rate monitor calorie burn to the BodyBugg. Having used a HRM for a long time, I can say that my calorie burn charts look "reasonable."

The online software is very interesting - you enter your food, it uploads your activity, and shows a deficit. Since the commonly accepted formula is 3500 calories in a pound, if you burn 500 calories over what you eat each day, you would lose a pound a week.

Unfortunately, the food part of the program is terrible - there is next to nothing in the database so you end up manually adding almost everything. Since I'm not made out of spare time, I end up faking it... picking something similar and forcing the portion size to approximate the calories I want. I actually follow Weight Watchers so I largely ignore the food part and eat my points. My Weight Watchers points are 25 daily, which seems to translate to 1200 calories. This makes me a little nervous because I believe that is about as low as you should ever go on calories, and I think WW will let people go down to 18 points or so.

They also push their brand of supplements a little too hard on the website.

I will report back on the accuracy of my "predicted" weight loss via the BodyBugg versus what actually happened after a couple weeks, after the water weight is gone.

Thanks for the update. I don't understand how it can tell how many calories you burn, but it is very interesting to see how what you do each day can have such a big effect on things.

There is some scientific stuff on the website about how the calories are calculated. It's above my head, I guess. I've googled other people who have used it for longer periods of time and they seem to think it's accurate, at least in the sense that they lose how much the BodyBugg "predicted."

My husband got one too and he's bigger than me AND more active - he is burning more like 4000 calories a day.

Thanks for your updates. It all does sound interesting. I like the gadgets, but can't see this one just yet for me. However, if one just happened to appear at my doorstep, well...
