Our priest introduced him this morning and welcomed him home from Operation Iraqi Freedom. He asked Bobby to say a few words about his experience. He did so well!!!
(Just for your information, Bobby grew up in this parish, going to the Catholic Grade-School, and serving as an alter boy here for 6 years...so many of these people had known him since he was a little boy).
He started out by telling us that the Marine Corp prepares them on how to deal with a hostile enemy, but not how to get up in front of everyone at church and talk.
Our priest said, "yes...but we're not hostile"...which of course got a laugh out of everyone.
Bobby went on to say how happy he was to be home for Father's Day....he only wished he'd been home for Mother's Day. He then said how they'd all been given a 2-minute satellite phone call home on Mother's Day, and how his mom cried through the entire conversation.
He finished by thanking all of them for their letters, packages and prayers...and as he walked back to his seat, the entire congregation stood and applauded. Just one more reason for this proud mother to stand there and cry.
