I have to admit that I don't know a lot about Chapek, beyond hearing Pete's obvious displeasure with him on shows, and I also thought it was VERY sudden, and unexpected (as far as I know), and I wonder what precipitated the urgency?
And before that comes from marketing and consumer products. People associate him with making the parks more about the products and less about experience in a way.
I seem to recall that Iger wanted to do this a lot earlier, but was convinced to stay longer...the announcement does seem sudden, but maybe we wanted to get the final clock running?
I am trying to decide if having the Asia parks closed makes this timing worse, or better, in that the profits were going to be a mess anyways. Maybe the idea was have the same quarter take the hit of losing Iger that was inevitable.
I wonder if the parks being closed and the stock considerations played into his decision.
This. Make him the CEO of the garbage can designs in the parks, or the CEO of churro flavors. But pleeeease!! (said in the Splash Mountain tone).....don't let him run the entire company!
