were looking to add one more good restaurant to our trip (using the deluxe dining plan). We also didn't add STK because I've heard it's more dressy/nightclub scene and we'll be in jeans and tshirts so I don't want to go someplace and feel under-dressed. Which would you pick - and why. TIA :)

Edited to remove part about steak - clearly DH hasn't looked at the menu lol

IMHO I would choose Homecoming even though i haven't eaten there lol. We had lunch at the Boathouse and it was reallly uneddible. I assume that Boathouse is 2 credits and Homecoming 1 credit. I would not burn 2 credits at boathouse and the reviews from homecoming have been outstanding!

Which menu appeals most to your family? That should be what makes your decision.
Both have had outstanding reviews and both have had not so good reviews. Strangers on the internet can not tell you what you and your family will enjoy
Good Luck

We (my family of four with kids 23 and 18) ate at both between Christmas and New Years. I liked both but give the edge to Boathouse for food and outstanding service. We spent NYE at Boathouse and plan on doing both again in September but if I had to choose one, it most certainly be Boathouse.

Enjoy! Let us know what you end up booking.

You definitely have to pick what works best for you. My rule of thumb is that if I can't find an appetizer, entree, and dessert that I want from the restaurant, I put it in my 'maybe' pile and come back to it later. I REALLY enjoyed Homecoming, particularly the Fried Green Tomatoes and the orange donuts, but I don't know that I'd pay that much for fried chicken again. I was a little disappointed in the side dishes. I didn't think they were 'out of this world', but I'm also spoiled because my mom is a really good cook. :|

If you check out Disneyfoodblog, there are detailed reviews on many of the food items at both restaurants. The Boathouse is supposed to have some incredible seafood and entree options. I will admit that DFB's review about the fries nudged me into the 'must go' category. My travel agent also said how good it is, even though she doesn't eat seafood.

So maybe check out the menu and see what meal you would put together for each restaurant. And then decide if you'd be more disappointed to skip either restaurant and go from there.

But if you DO choose The Boathouse, get donuts as a take-away from Homecoming. They were SO GOOD I almost cried last September. I'm not kidding. They were wonderful.

see that's where im not sure - DH says Homecoming. I say Boathouse. DD doesn't care as long as there's nuggets, mac n cheese or a hot dog. I dont like looking at menus because most have something we'll eat, but the atmosphere or execution of the food could make all the difference. Hence my question :)

thank you! im a person of habit and truly can eat the same thing for lunch and dinner and never get bored or tired of the same. In the past we've always stuck to what we knew, this time we're going out of our comfort zone entirely and its really unnerving me. HAHA

Homecoming is delicious! Some of the best fried chicken and the Mac and cheese was out of this world

My husband and I certainly vouch for Boathouse as we had our first lunch married there and LOVED it! The alcoholic drinks we had (I can't remember which ones we got) were a bit on the strong side, but I had the Lobster Andouille Macaroni and Cheese (best dish I think I've ever had, no exaggeration) and my husband took on the Porterhouse that is meant for two and raves about it still to this day.

Homecoming is on our list of restaurants to try though as all of the dishes look delicious.

Your mileage may vary, but we've done Homecoming twice now and have come away with a lukewarm feeling about it. It's not that anything was particularly bad, but we expected better. The sides (as someone else mentioned) were fine, but not anything better than what we can get at a local BBQ spot at home. The fried chicken was also fine -- very moist -- but it wasn't anything that would draw us back in. (Their Jasper Board charcuterie platter is fantastic, though.) In the end, we gave Homecoming two tries and weren't blown away. With all the great restaurants in the Springs now, it's not on our return list.

We tried the Boathouse for the first time on our last trip for lunch and all of our sandwiches were outstanding. Their "award winning burger" was really one of the best burgers I've ever had (and it better have been for $20!). I can't vouch for their steaks, per se, but we did have a steak sandwich and the meat was delicious. Similarly, the crab cakes were very good (although it did need some Old Bay which we asked for and received...maybe that's just a Mid-Atlantic thing that we're used to?).

They really are two different options, though, and your meal certainly won't be "bad" in the slightest at Homecoming...I'd just lower the expectations is all.

We haven't eaten at Boathouse yet but tried Homecoming on our last trip. All I can say is it's amazing. It's not fancy and largely just comfort food but it is done to perfection. My hubby is a chef and WV boy and he couldn't recall eating southern food done so well before

thank you all for the great input! going to show DH this post and let him make the final call <and as he reads this, i'll leave it off by saying: my pick is Boathouse! :love2:pixiedust:>

Boathouse has a nice outdoor bar on the water which my DH and I enjoy sitting at to have an appetizer and some drinks. If we want a full meal we just order more appetizers. We are trying Homecoming in July since we haven't been their yet. I think I would vote for a full meal at Homecoming and then drinks and appetizers at Boathouse if you can fit both in that way - you don't an ADR for the outdoor bar at Boathouse.

Then look at the menus.

I was going to Boathouse our next vacation, until I read menu at Paddlefish.

And we will be going to Homecoming. Relative-value is at Homecoming with entrees priced below $25.

Boathouse may have more expensive items, but there are plenty of lower priced choices in addition to those more expensive items.

Boathouse has a marginally more upscale feel too, but people are in Disney t-shirts.

Homecoming. We haven't been to Boathouse, but Homecoming is amazing. We went twice on our last trip.
Homecoming-Side Plate with Macaroni, that we didn't like, biscuits, and amazing sweet potatoes

Both?

I think Boathouse has a bit better quality and feels a bit more upscale, but Homecoming is great. Personally, I'd do the opposite of what a previous poster reccomended: get steak, shellfish, sides and wine at boathouse, then head to homecomings bar for moonshine and dessert. Of course, on the DDP I guess that's not the best option, but it would be a great evening for me. Ooo, and maybe a cocktail and snack at Morimoto's to start the night off....

I kid, sort of. Anyway, you won't go wrong with either.

I don't drink - at all. Lol. DH on the other hand may like that idea :)

Yes, deviled eggs. We ordered them without bacon, so I didn't eat them, but my daughter liked them.
The fries are house made potato crisps with a ranch-like dressing on them. The chips were amazing!!

We really enjoy eating at the Boathouse however the reviews coming from Homecoming seems really positive so thinking about trying it nice year.
