we are finally under 100 days til our trip so i broke out the disney 100 years of magic dvd. i noticed during the animal kingdom part, a slow moving boat ride/tour going along the riverlike water that surrounds the tree of life. i've only been to animal kingdom twice (2001, 2002) and i've never seen this. was this something that was there before those years or am i completely missing it? thanks!

There used to be a boat ride along Discovery River which you are referring, but that was stopped after the first year or so. There are areas where you can go down close to the river but there is no longer a ride of any kind (that I am aware).

GenePA is right - The Discovery River Boats were removed a couple of years ago because no one liked them!;) Seriously, I think they were removed because they had a very low guest capacity and Disney didn't get very many positive remarks about them.

I'm surprised that that is in the DVD, because the boat rides around that river took place during the preview days of the Animal Kingdom before it opened to the general public, and possibly just during the first few months after opening or something, then it was closed, and now those docks are used for character greetings.
