Boardwalk

Hi Folks,

I know very little about "the Boardwalk" but we are toying with the idea of visiting one evening. Our children will be 13 and 6; will this be a good idea or is it more for grown ups at night?

I've not stayed there but it's definitely on my todo list, location is great with kids as the transportation links for EPCOT and HS are good. You have the boardwalk bakery for breakfast and a pool and fitness centre at the hotel. I haven't heard any overtly negative comments about this resort other than it is a little pricey.

Just noticed you are going to boardwalk rather than staying! All the resturuaunts are child friendly, I've seen lots of family's with young children eating in the signature Flyingfish cafe. You can rent bicycles to explore and they also have street entertainers on occasion.

On an evening they sometimes have street entertainers. You can also hire a surrey bike which my DD always likes to do.

Are you planning on eating there as well?

I would say the kids would definitely get something out of it. Between about 7pm and 10pm there are street entertainers doing magic shows, comedy, etc - many of them have opportunities for the kids to join in, too. My son still remembers helping the magician with his act a couple of years ago, and the guy was great with him.

There are quite a few options for food, you can see and hear Epcot fireworks at 9pm each night - the higher fireworks, at least. You can also wander round to the beach area outside the Yacht and Beach club resorts and watch an outdoor movie - think this is pretty much most nights.

Last thought - it's about 10 mins walk past the Swan and Dolphin hotels to Fantasia Gardens mini golf, and they are open till about 10.30pm most nights, too, so that's a good way to finish a visit.

We went there for the first time this year and weren't that impressed to be honest. It's worth stopping off there if you're walking between Epcot and HS, but with children, I wouldn't plan on spending a whole evening there.

Thanks for the replies. Hadn't thought about eating there, but could do. Will check out flying fish. We have a spare evening; I guess if we don't get much out of it, or the entertainers aren't there we can always go spend sometime in EPCOT?

We love all that area and our absolute favourite place to stay is the Beach Club. As others have said the location is fab, however I couldn't see me spending a whole evening there. A wander about and something to eat is a lovely way to pass a few hours. If you're looking for a cheaper option than the Flying Fish (doesn't suit us - DS isn't fond of their menu) we tried the Big River Grille and Brewing Works last year and had a lovely meal at a reasonable cost. We were served quickly and managed to walk along to Epcot and catch Illuminations which was an added bonus. An ice cream (or Kitchen Sink for those with hollow legs )later on at Beaches and Cream is always an option if you've managed to walk off some of your earlier meal.

We have owned our dvc at Boardwalk since 1999 - we love it

The atmosphere is great on an evening - there are jugglers, and other entertainers on the promanade. ESPN is a sit down sports restaurant where you can walk up. There are also other fine dining signature restaurants which you'll need to book in advance. They also have vendors selling corn dogs and fries etc. A lot of families hire a surrey bike and ride round the water.
