On our next WDW trip with my DW and 10 year-old DD we are going to relax a bit more and take a few days off without any trips to the park.

We've never been to BW. Is there enough to do there to spend a few hours and maybe have lunch?

We plan to stay at POR and won't have a car, so I'm guessing the best way to get there is to transfer at Downtown Disney?

I think you guys would love some time at the Boardwalk, but I would reccomend dinner - not lunch. There isn't much going on there during the day. In the evenings, it really comes alive. They have strolling entertainers (jugglers, musicians, etc.), face painting, carnival games, cool shops, and tons of other fun stuff. I would reccomend Spoodles for dinner. It's wonderful!

You could transfer at DD to get there from POR, or maybe just plan to head over there after a day at MGM or Epcot. You can walk or take the boat to the Boardwalk from either of those parks. However you get there, I would just reccomend grabbing a cab for the ride home. It won't cost much at all to get to POR and it will be so much easier when you are tired!

We just returned a week ago and we stayed at POFQ but went one evening to BW. We had a great time (DH, DDs 3 & 7 and myself). Lots going on at night. Go in the evening and eat dinner is what I recommend also! It was a fun place.

Dinner it is then. I've heard that Spoodles is very good as well as The Flying Fish. But, I'm a fan of microbrews and I've read of the Big River Grille & Brewing Works which has five of their own on tap. But, the food is more important than beer.....well, almost.

So, a beer and then off to Spoodles or the Flying Fish. Which would be the best suggestion? Thanks!

I definately wouldn't reccomend dinner at Big River. The food is not very good and the service is downright terrible. Either Spoodles or Flying Fish would be my reccomendation. They are two of our very favorite restaurants in all of Disney World, and you can't go wrong with either one! Both have children's menus available. Just check out the menus for each and make your decision based on what you think you guys would like most. If you go to www.wdwig.com the secion on "dining" has menus and prices posted for all WDW restaurants. Have fun!

It's true, Spoodles and Flying Fish are both great restaurants.
I think of Flying Fish as more of a big meal, a rather pricey big meal!
At Spoodles, we like to have a couple glasses of nice wine and 2 or 3 flatbreads.
The flatbreads are so delicious!

Have a magical vacation!

I would definitely do dinner. I would also strongly recommend taking the MGM bus and then skipping over to the boat or walk on the path to BW. they are both before the entrance to the park so you don't have to use an admission. You better be careful, you will probably fall in love with the area and then you will need to stay there for all of the action:smooth:

You can also eat at the ESPN club with all the tv's for DD to watch and have your beer too. Its a little more active there and not as pricy. Also there are places to eat at Y&BC.

Check out this site for menu

If I recall, there are some nifty shops at the Boardwalk, and the Yacht and Beach Club, too. (The latter offering mostly nautically-themed resort wear and stuff.)

And, you could always wander over to the Swan & Dolphin for a visit. Or take in a round or two of mini-golf at the Fantasia course.

Here's another THUMBS DOWN!! for the Red River Grille for food. We ate there this past January and I thought it was the worst food of our trip:( . That said, the beer was OK though.

I would definitely go in the evening for the Boardwalk activity and choose another restaurant for the meal.

Just my honest opinion.

Ooh, dinner at Spoodles is great! Yumm... ;)

It's nice to walk around the BW/YC/BC/Swan/Dolphin area, it's not far of a walk, but peaceful (until you get into the action of the BW).

Have fun!

You can walk all around the lagoon from BW, to BC,YC, Swan & dophin, stop in and see the hotels and their shops. Dinner at the BW or maybe the cape may galley sea food buffet. You are right a bus from downtown disney to the hotel. Or maybe walk thru ecpot and go out their back gate to the hotels. Have a great time:bounce: :p

Another endorsement for dinner. Manyof the street vendors do not open until late afternoon, early evening. Another option is to rent a surrey bicycle and take a ride. You can also catch Illuminations from the Boardwalk area. Enjoy!

The Boardwalk area is great at night, lots of family-oriented entertainment. The Cape May Cafe and Beaches & Cream across the Lake at the Beach Club are both very good. I agree the best way to get there would usually be a bus to the Studios, then the boat or walk to the Boardwalk area. It's fun to watch Illuminations from there, the bridge between the Boardwalk & YC is a good spot. Have fun!
