Boardwalk Villas Drainage Problems?

This was our first visit to BWV and it seemed liked we had nothing but problems with drainage. While getting a shower the water would fill up an inch or two due to poor drainage.

My daughter used the bathroom through the night and woke up hearing the toilet running. It had stopped up and was running all over the flooring. We could not get it to stop running over and had to walk through water and turn the water off in the back. It was a wonderful way to wake up. She was also very upset.

I complained to maintence about the shower and the toilets. He actually used a plunger on the shower. Gross!!!!

I don't know if I will stay there again. Our home is OKW and we have points at BCV. I never have had these problems there. It seemed like an awfully long walk to the elevators from where we were, also. Anyone else have these sort of problems when staying there?

Hmm...During our October stay at BWV we also had slow drainage problems in both bathroom sinks. And the one sink by the jacuzzi also had a leak. But maintenance came and fixed them rather quickly. Sorry to hear about your drain problems Oshun, that doesn't sound pleasant at all. :(

We just got back from a stay at BWV and had no problems with any of the drains. As a matter of fact, we had no complaints about anything, well, other than the long walk to our room...#2012! Sorry you had a problem.

:( I'm sorry to hear you had problems at BWV. It isn't pleasant, I know. You are fortuneate to live in a new house or apartment at home so you don't experience those kind of problems. I live in a 130 year old house, and have learned how to completely take apart a toilet and put it back together again, so a backed up toilet or shower is no problem for me, that's probably why BWV don't bother me a bit. It also has a boardwalk view, which is worth the hike to the room, and it counts as exercise on Weight Watchers, so I can eat more food than usual!:p

Sorry to hear you had problems. I would have done more than just complain to maintenance if I had those kind of problems at any resort. I hope you also spoke to BW General Manager. The resorts always want to know when there are any type of problems. They can't fix what they do not know about.
I have stayed at BWV, many, many times(it is our home resort and we absolutely love it) and have never had this kind of problem with any villa we have had.

I've never had this kind of problem either. Gosh there must be a lot of hair that goes down those drains and heaven knows what else. I wonder how they know that it's time to clean them out, I don't think they just do it by themselves. I suppose it is just by other guests telling them. How else would they know?

There is a strange relationship in our house between the garbage disposal and the shower and I know that we have to be very careful with the shower and make sure we keep that drain clean. Maybe there are some unusal pipe situations around WDW also that back up once in a while.

I'm sorry you had problems. I've never stayed at BWV, always OKW :) But, the slow drain may not have been a problem from lack of maintenance, neglect, or even age. Perhaps the previous guest, or a guest in another room, flushed something that should NOT have been flushed. How many times do you go into a public restroom only to see that someone has purposely stopped up the plumbing for the sheer "fun" of it? Some people get their kicks this way and there is really no way to prevent it from happening.

Not everyone takes care of their Home Away from Home

I used to work in a video store, and we were required to offer public restrooms. Someone would try to destroy them at least once a week

We had a backup at Port Orleans when we stayed there a few years ago. We woke up to a few inches of nasty water in the tub and the toilet wasn't looking so good either. It turned out to be a problem on the floor (1st). We went to breakfast while maintenance took care of it and when we returned to the room, you would never had known that problem existed. We also realized later that our breakfast never appeared on our bill. Pixie dust all around.

we were at BCV in late October and the tub was very slow to drain....called maintenance and they sent someone to do the dirty job of cleaning a fairly clogged drain of the hair that accumulates there. As for a running commode....those things happen anywhere and just have to be repaired when it does.

I really think since the drains in the tubs allow (no strainer type catch) the hair to flow in....DVC should just periodically take care of the ongoing issue with a drain cleaning product so it is not left to the guest to have to deal (standing in a tub of slow draining water is nasty) with it on their vacation.

Thanks for everyones kind comments. I do have to say after they cleaned up and put a fan in the room it dried. Problem was then that it smelled musty. I wonder if this has happened before in this room since it smelled after it was dry. I feel sorry for anyone this week who had to stay in this room (4019) because I don't think I could have tolerated a musty smell. I hope they did more cleaning after we checked out on 12/4.

I might have missed this so.......was this a 1 br or 2 br? Also was this a standard or boardwalk view? Just asking for our upcoming trip. Sorry you had this experience. Hopefully the next time you will have no problems at all.:D

It's ironic to read this post. I just came back and spent last Saturday nite at BWV-exact same problem with the tub! At first I was sure I'd accidently closed the drain and kept fiddling around with it. Finally I realized that the water just drained v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y. It was like I was taking a combination bath-shower. But I'm so glad to hear someone else had the same concern. Like I said, all that fiddling, I was sure it was my non-engineering mentality.

A few years ago at the BWV we had a problem with the plumbing. As I was changing the toilet paper the holder fell into the toilet which was in the process of flushing!!! Was my face red!!!! Called maintenance and it took them several hours to retrieve the holder. The plumbing at BWV isn't gravity flow. From our room waste water went up and twisted and turned ( per maintenance). They had to locate the holder, only saving factor was that I was told they have had far worse problems because people are embarassed and don't call when something like that happens.
