Overheard on the boat to MGM and then confirmed by a CM that I know who works in the store at BW - the Atlantic Dance club building is being turned over to Disney Conventions. They will be creating a wedding chapel - unclear if they are building one, or remodelling to create one - but it will be in view of Illuminations! And the dance hall will become - well, I assume a reception/convention area. Also no details on that - but it is apparently true that it's being converted!

Great news for weddings - and great news for those of you who didn't like the noise from the club in the BW view rooms!

I noticed that you no longer hear music from the dance hall. I remember it from previous trips.

IMHO, I think it's good news for Boardwalk guests too.

When we were there at Thanksgiving, a couple was getting married on the area that is past ESPN on the left hand side that borders the lake and is like a gazebo and walkway combined.

Oh, great! Another perk from the Disney Dining Experience was free admission to Atlantic Dance. Wait a minute, I never used that perk anyway. Nevermind...

Rats! I was hoping for a food court - or at least another entertainment venue. A wedding chapel doesn't do much for me. Seems like every time we visit there's less and less to do on the Boardwalk.

I was hoping for a family dance club myself....Maybe a permanent big wedding party.....

I would have liked to have seen a larger ESPN Club. I think that would have brought a lot more people to the BW area.

Mom and I went at night to Atlantic Dance Hall last December and it was so empty! It never seems to be too crowded at any other times we've been in that area, either. I'm glad to hear that they'll be making it into a wedding chapel area...I'm sure they'll do something beautiful with it!

Great news IMHO!

BTW DukeStreetKing - When I went there wasn't an admission fee -- but the drinks were astronomically priced, so it made up for the free admission.

This is a GREAT idea. When they aren't doing weddings for other people they could have a Tony & Tina's Wedding evening show.

That would be cool. Or a mystery dinner theater type of concept.

My husband and I are ballroom dancers. Prior to 9/11 the Atlanta Dance Hall was a fun place for us to go.
It was virtually empty until the parks closed and then all of the cast members came pouring in.
The floor was wonderful to dance on.
One night we lucked into a live Blues Brothers type band.
They had themed nights, like one night was Swing, one was Latin, one was Salsa, etc.

After 9/11 the place was always empty.
And as a result of that they stopped the themed nights and went to a DJ playing what he wanted to hear. Needless to say, it was not our type of music.

Every trip we make down to WDW we walk over to the dance hall to see if dancable music was being played. On our last trip it had turned into music videos.
So unlike the rest of the posters, we did enjoy it when it was a dance hall and had always hoped they would bring the danceable music back.
It seems like there are numerous places one can get married around the parks and would hope they can come up with something else to do with the space.

Hmmm...the idea of a "family dance hall" made me think. We just got back from MVMCP, and they had a "Character Hop" over by Ariel's Grotto. It was SOOO cute!!! There were a whole bunch of kids and their parents dancing with different characters. They did the macarena, the conga line, the hokey pokey, and hot potato. It was the most fun my dd had at MVMCP. Maybe they should open this up as a family style dinner with a character dance? They could charge $25.00 per person like any other character dinner. I think this would be a HUGE success!!! Plus, it would bring MANY people to the boardwalk who otherwise might not have come, and it would give an option of something to do on the boardwalk for families with small kids. I know we would go EVERY time!!

If I ran WDW....

Pleasure Island would be adults only. Including the Adventurers Club.

But BW would be all "family friendly" venues. A family dance club, comedy club/dueling pianos and sports bar. And Tony and Tina's Wedding (albeit, not that exactly, but the concept) was exactly what I was thinking of.....the Adventurers Club with a Big Jersey Ethnic Wedding Theme - the ethnicity undetermined so at any given time you could play salsa or polkas or swing or the macarena or chicken dance when the "theatre" wasn't happening.

::yes:: , especially the PI adults only statement.

This is an excellent idea. Right now the Hoop-de-doo and the Luau are both excellent dinner shows but getting a little hairy with age. As attendance at the parks picks up, a third dinner show would be welcome and making it participatory would be fabulous.

I always have wanted to go to Tony and Tina's wedding!

Mickey's Backyard Barbecue is family dancing fun, our group enjoyed that in 2001, our "nieces" had a ball line dancing and getting autographs. That's held in FW, but I agree that the Boardwalk area would attract more customers.

I can understand the wedding idea, though, it's a goldmine. A wedding at Disney with 25 or fewer guests, a cake, champagne, and photographer, comes in at slightly under $5000 for about an hour or so, with music, but no reception. It really is quite lovely, like a garden party, in a way, but $5000 is a bit steep, and DD was divorced two years later. Ouch! :moped:
