It's absolutely official. We got the member number today and verified the points are as they should be. 333 BW points at $18000 out the door with seller paying closing and title and no reimbursement for dues. December use year with all there for Dec, 2002 and there were actually 19 left in the 2001 use year, we had been told there were none left for 2001. So BW at $54 pp with no closing, etc. Though not having the current points diminishes the value somewhat, still I'm satisfied that this was the best deal I would be able to get and am surprised DVC let it go through.

Wow! Congratulations Dean. I guess it pays to look around for a good deal and be patient.

Dean, you suck!! You own more points than anyone on this board! Share the wealth, why don't you?

I'm green with it!!

Congratulations Dean! What a deal! We heard on our resale today, and you were right, the hold up does involve the sellers mortgage with Disney. I guess it is out of everyones control, but will be really glad when we are final! We are happy with our deal, but yours is unreal!!

Congrats Dean! Very nice deal!

Do you think DVC would have let the deal go through if there was a wait list for that UY at BWV?

Some might wonder why you buy more points when you constantly have them up for rent on your Internet site.

Congratulations and thank you for all your help and advice!

First, you should know that I would have walked away from this deal for another $500 difference. Actually I did and the seller contacted me again through the broker. I don't rent my points all that often but keep them listed. I also list them for rent on a couple of free ad sites. That way I don't actually have to put any major work into it. Actually I may sell one of the OKW contracts in the future anyway, my main goal was to get BW as a home resort, not that I really needed more points per se. What would you say if I told you I bought a second Marriott Grande Ocean Platinum week for the basic reason to get the 13 month reservation window over the 12 month window for a single week owner.

As for why DVC let this one go through, I really can't say. Whether it's because they bought one out from under me previously or there weren't any current points or they were just generous that day, I really don't know. I've heard in the past that they buy every periodic one and let some go through no matter what the deal. I've also heard they have a budget for a month and when they get to the end they don't buy any more the rest of the month. I have no idea if any of these rumors are true. I do know that one of the brokers emailed me that if this went through they wanted to talk to DVC and question what DVC had been telling them.

While I appreciate the congratulations, that's not why I posted. I wanted to let people know that this had gone through because I promised I would. I'm not nearly as touchy feely with Disney as most owners seem to be, though I do enjoy DVC and WDW. I didn't consider it official until it was in the DVC system with my name on it and I knew the points were as they should have been. I wanted everyone to know that there were alternatives if you look around. I also wanted to open people's mind to some of the other options to look for points other than the big 3. I've bought 3 contracts and none were through the big 3. The one's that specialize in DVC tend to drive the price up somewhat. There's nothing wrong with that, their job is to sell at the highest possible amount. I've had no problems with my resales with companies not that familiar with DVC. The closing agency is the important aspect and one must use one in FL anyway so as long as the closing company is familiar, I don't think it matters otherwise.

Congratulations, Dean. Thanks for letting us know it worked out. It seems like a great deal.

Thanks for letting us know such a deal can go thru! Congrats on getting it Dean!:bounce:

I can certainly understand your wanting to have BWV as a home resort option! As for the Marriott Platinum purchase, I would say that is certainly understandable also. How much of a hassle is it selling the DVC points? Do people request a certain time and you check to see if it is available? How do you handle the money issues?

Also, I have been looking into a non-Disney timeshare ever since I saw the Atlantis resort and the Harborside timeshare property but I understand that it is a Starwood property. Do you know anything about Starwood?

It hasn't been a hassle the few times I've rented points. The best part had been meeting new friends. I've had 2 that rented then buy DVC that had not planned to before. I don't know much about Starwood other than some of their resorts. Atlantis sounds impressive. I'll be happy to share my normal terms, just email me privately.

All I can say is that you finally came to your senses and purchased at the best resort;) Also, this shows you can never really predict when Disney will excercise ROFR although I suspect the lack of most current points probably won the day for you. Saw your website -- home of a true timeshare junkie (I don't think they have any modern medicine that will cure you). One question I have is whether having the website has actually resulted in any rentals (just curious).

OKW is still my first love. It is an incurable disease and I love every minute of it. Reminds me of the guy that worked at Jack Daniels distillery. He fell in one of the vats and drowned. Workers say that they tried to get him out be he successfully fought them off. As for rentals from the website, I haven't had any points available since that's been up and running. I have had action on other rentals and sales from that site.

Thanks for sharing your resale experience, Dean. All your posts have been informative and helpful to me and others.

You definitely found a great deal with this resale. I know that it was due entirely to your patience, as well as your research and knowledge of DVC and the timeshare industry.

I'm sure everyone here (including me) wished that you were doing the negotiations for them when they were shopping for a resale! Hmmm... bet you could make some $$ as a deal shopper around here! :D Lol!!
