Boardwalk Pre-ordering Food

In two weeks, we are staying at the Boardwalk for 7 days and I would like to pre-order some food. We will not have a car to go outside of the park. I am mostly concern with breakfast items and snacks so we can stock the kitchen. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Since all you want is a few breakfast items and snacks, just buy them at the Boardwalk General Store after you arrive. Yes, the prices are higher than most grocery stores, but not that much higher. IMHO, they are comparable to convenience store prices.

I think if you preorder (say from a place like NetGrocer), the shipping charges will make the General Store option look just fine - especially since you will probably need to get some additonal items (perishables like milk, eggs, juice, etc.) anyway.

Another option is to get to and from WDW via towncar. Price is comparable to a taxi. If you have 3 or 4 people, a towncar will actually be a better deal than the Mears shuttle, to say nothing of the added convenience and feel of being the only passengers. Most towncars will stop at a grocery for 1/2 hour at no extra charge. You can pick up all your items then.

Best wishes -

Can someone tell me where is the General Store. We will be there in about 5 weeks. Do they have a good selection of items?Dennis

There is a general store located on the Boardwalk itself. There is also a general store located in Downtown Disney. There is one in Fort Wilderness, but that is a bit out of the way.

The selection is modest, but they have the basic. We usually order from Net Grocers because the selection is better. The shipping charges are mostly offset by the lack of sales tax charges. But Carol is right, you will have to get your perishables from the store as Net Groger doesn't do milk, eggs, and soda pop.

I've used Netgrocer in the past, and been happy with them. You can get bottled water cheaply though them. Last time I ordered, shipping was just $5 on an order of any size. Just buying a few bottles of water at their prices instead of Disney's will make up for the shipping charges.

I believe Goodings delivers, but they are amazingly expensive.

I have preordered groceries through DVC to be in my refrigerator when we arrive and it has worked out well. It is a little pricey, but it's nice to have milk, at least, for breakfast (that we bring, like cereal or poptarts) already there for you. I have also ordered the frozen pizza and other items, but only once. We drive, so we can bring most things ourselves.

I found the prices in the convenience store at BWV, VWL and BCV to be cheaper than your average convenience store except for items like alcohol. The basics, bread, eggs, milk were priced "ok".

Town cars...aren't town cars $90 r/t? The ones with the grocery stops. Mears is $27 roundtrip for an adult. So you need to travel with at least 3 people (all age 4 or older) to make a town car worthwhile over the convenience store or ordering through net grocer.

In my opinion, the towncar is well worth the cost.

I believe Tiffany is around $80 (we took a van last time, so I'm not positive), and there's a coupon in my Passporter, which brings the cost down even further.

Regardless of cost, though, Tiffany picks you up, does a half hour grocery stop if you wish, and takes you directly to your resort. Hard to compare that to Mears, who stops at every resort along the way. I did that once, years ago, and have no desire to do it, again.

If you have a town car stop, consider preodering from Albertsons. Fax them a list and it is all ready for pickup, maiking for a real quick stop.

Located just north of 417 at exit 11.
.
They allow you to specify size and brands or state "most economical or sale"

My one lesson, is to state "please feel free to substitute a comparable product if not available".

Good luck
Sandy

I have also seen a company in Orlando that deliveries groceries to you at your hotel. You fax or email your order to them with a date and time of delivery and they delivery it with in 15 minutes of your order time. The company is WeGoShop.com

Excellent advice! For the easiest, most convenient, largest selection and best prices............I would definitely follow this advice. We have done all ways of getting groceries while staying at BWV, and pre faxing to Albertson's is the easiest, cheapest and most convenient, by far.

Sandy,

How far is this store from the World?

Should we fax after we arrive or before we leave home (the day before)? Ie. How long does it take them to get the groceries ready?

It's under 10 minutes away if memory serves me. I fax about 3 days before (but have done as little as 36 hours and than called to confirm). As far as actual shopping time, I have no idea, the cart is ready and waiting for you.

A little pampering goes a long way. Its nice to get my groceries and not shop!
