Boardwalk Pool

We are planning a trip to WDW leaving 2/1/13 and staying at the Boardwalk Villas. We had never stayed there before and my DS (age 12) really wanted to do the clown water slide. I just got a letter in the mail that says the Luna Park Pool will be closed on January 2, 2013 and will reopen in early March. I am very disappointed in this. What I am disappointed most in that we get notified now when it is closing in 1 week, I am sure they new before now it would be closing. My son wants to see if we can change resorts but I am not sure what would be available this late (arrival is in 37 days). Since February weather varies so much I don't know that we would even get to swim much.

What is everyone's opinion, would you just stick with Boardwalk or see if we can change to something else?

I'm just reading this now and I'm disappointed as well! We are arriving on 1/15 but we are DVC so we didn't get a letter about the pool closure. I know the weather can be cool or even cold in Jan, but we always manage at least one pool day and our kids are going to be disappointed that the slide will not be an option this time. They usually offer BWI guests the use of SB at the YC/BC when the feature pool is closed, so if that happens again this time, I will not be as disappointed I guess.....but it's still a pain to have to go to another resort...

We are staying at BWV on rented points 1/20-1/27/12. I received the same letter today and was disappointed too. I was hoping to try the pool once. The letter only offered the leisure pools, did not mention using BC or YC pools. Since we rented DVC points, changing resorts is not an option. You could always call and see if you have any options, never hurts to ask.

We go every February and always get to go swimming. Sometimes it is beautiful during the day and then cold at night. If you don't want to move hotels, I would ask if you can use another hotels pool. They have to let you or make them discount your stay. The Beach Club pool is great but they check to make sure you are staying there. I would try something.

This has been an ongoing topic on the BW thread. DVC Members have been offered the use of Stormalong Bay, but so far for cash reservations the two quiet pools have been the only option offered. In the past every time the BW pool was closed, all guests have been offerred SAB, so there may still be some hope.

Thanks so much for the information!! We are DVC members staying on our own points and we got a letter so I assume they will be sending them to everyone. We didn't get offered the pool at Beach Club but that would be awesome! The letter only referenced the other pools at Boardwalk. I will have to call

Oy! I'm guessing our letter will be arriving today as well. I'm not a swimmer and it needs to be blazing hot for me to go through the trouble of getting changed, but my kids are 5 and 2 and short of freezing temps, they love to swim! And at their ages, we always break in the afternoon for pool or down time. The good news for us is that we are traveling with extended family and some are staying at the BW and others at the YC so if we can use SB, all the kids will be able to swim together.

Both times we went in January we went swimming. Boardwalk usually allows you to go and swim at the Beach Club when they close the pool. They drive you over in golf carts. You should call and check if they will be doing this. The BC/YC have a great pool/ water slide that will totally satisfy your son.

I just emailed with the BWI IPO and they are telling me the pool doesn't close until 1/28. (good news for us because we arrive 1/6!!) Pool will reopen 3/1.

So what did the letter say? Everything I read said 1/28 as well but then people were saying they got letters indicating it was closing on 1/2.....

I read about the Luna Park closure on the BWI thread in early December. We're doing a split stay between BWI CL and Poly in late January, but I have not yet received a letter. The early December posts mentioned that guests would have the option of using the quiet pools at BWI. In my experience at WDW, whenever there is a deluxe pool closure (or even a partial closure at SAB), Disney offers guests use of another themed pool with a slide.

So I e-mailed IPO on December 8 asking about the pool options. They said that, at that time, the only options planned for BWI guests were the two quiet pools. I wrote back to share my previous experience with pool closures and my disappointment that Disney was not making an alternative themed pool with slide available, and IPO said their information comes direct from the BWI front desk. IPO also reported that the quiet pools were the only options available "at this time," but that additional options may be forthcoming. Since then, someone on the DVC boards mentioned that someone from Member Services told them SAB would be available. I'm not sure whether that's just for DVC members staying at BWI during the closure, or for all guests staying at BWI during the closure. But I haven't seen additional information regarding that issue since.

As for whether to switch, we thought about it. BC is my favorite resort, so I would have liked to switch to BC or YC. But we've stayed at BC/YC a lot recently, we love CL at BWI and my husband and three boys really wanted to stick with the BWI reservation. The primary reason for our decision to stay is the outstanding BWI CL. If we had booked a standard room at BWI, it would be an easy decision to switch to a standard room at BC.

Yep, the letter I got today said the pool was closing 1/2.

The lady I talked to today seemed very certain it wasn't closing until the 28th. She said there might have been a mix up because the Boardwalk Bakery closes 1/2.

I did express to him very nicely that I didn't like that and he said it could change and they could let us use the pool at the Beach Club but as of now the answer is no to that.

There is no option for us to change to the Beach Club, they are no rooms for what we need for 3 days in the middle of the trip.

That's exactly the answer we received from IPO in early December. While I'm not crazy about that response, at least it helps to know what to expect. I was thinking of checking in with IPO again, but I didn't want to be too much of a pest, so thanks for posting the update.

The letter I received stated that the pool would close on 1/2 through the beginning of March. The pool is a big part of our 10 day trip at the end of Feb through the beginning of March. Instead of possibly dealing with over crowding at the quiet pools, I switched to BC this morning. If the AP discount rooms were not still available at BC, I would have not been a happy vacationer. My 2 year old wakes up asking to go to the pool every morning at Disney.

Since I have written email confirmation from the BWI today stating the theme pool will be open until the 28th I'm going to print it out and bring it with me. So annoying that everyone can't give the same information!!!

We are renting points so too late to change..

I am hoping we will get to use SAB...
