Hi everyone:) DD and I are heading to CA as part of my 50th birthday month-long celebration:laughing: and I had booked a three-night stay at the Blue Sea Lodge on Mission Beach Boardwalk for our time in San Diego. Although it is a Best Western it gets very high marks on TA and a friend of mine stays there often.

Yesterday, Travelzoo posted a deal for the Loews Coronado for the same price once all things are equal (parking, internet, etc.) I am also eligible for an upgrade if available and there are a few other small freebies. The pictures look beautiful, much more upscale than the Blue Sea but obviously not on the boardwalk and apparently it is a 10 minute drive to everywhere.

If it were you, would you stay at the Blue Sea to be walking distance to all the restaurants and shops and right on the beach or at the Loews for the beautiful pools and restaurants, etc. Loews is on the marina with some type of walkway to the beach a few minutes away. I will have a car so that is not a problem.

The Loews in Coronado is a BEAUTIFUL resort, although a bit isolated, it's down a few miles from the famous Hotel del Coronado. I would stay there over Mission Beach in a HEARTBEAT, if you have a car. Coronado has its own quaint little personality too. Definitely go for the Loews. :)

Mission Beach is full of bars and drunk kids most of the time, especially at night. Coronado is going to be a little more of an upscale area, in my opinion. I say stay in Coronado and rent a car so that you can enjoy the boardwalk during the day, but get out of there before drunk kids riding bicycles ruin the atmosphere.

Coronado is awesome- and closer to downtown than Mission Beach for sure. It's a beautiful area. While you there, check out the Hotel Del. They have some fabulous little shops and restaurants that my DH doesn't let me go in anymore due to my various shopping sprees.. :lmao:

I haven't been to Mission Beach, but went to Coronado Island last summer...it's gorgeous!! We visited the Hotel del Coronado and fell in love! I would love to stay there someday:lovestruc

Well, that's 3 for 3 so we're going with Coronado:) Thanks everyone. TZ special was $125/night, $22 parking, free internet and upgrade with my rewards. Hard to beat that kind of price at such a nice place.
