With the airlines wanting to charge $25 for each extra piece of luggage, I was wondering anyone had shippined a box (or two) to the Boardwalk in the past. I guess what I really want to know is if I'm going to be charged for the box as if it were a convention deal. I have read in the past that Coronado has charged their guests when boxes are shipped to the resort and wanted to make sure that is not the case at the Boardwalk.

Thanks much!!

We have never been charged for shipping boxes to DVC resorts. Please delete your post after you read this. We don't want to give them any ideas. :rotfl2:

We shipped to the BWV and had no charges. We did, however, arrive after 9pm to the resort and we were unable to get the package until the next morning. It was not a huge deal for us, but I'm the immediate unpacker so it threw my plans a bit off kilter. Just gave DH a reason to chuckle at my "issues."

Why was the package unavailable after 9pm? I was going to send a box down for our upcoming trip. We land at 6:30, and I expect we'll be at SSR by 8pm.

Buying something on line that might need to be sent to BWV what is the correct mailing/shipping address?

If you ship something to the resort, how far ahead do you send it? And what do you mark on the shipping label so that they know who it belongs too?

DH and I thought about shipping stuff for our next trip but decided that the $25.00 airline would probably be about the same as shipping when you consider packing the items, driving them to shipping location and then having to ship them home. Has anyone figured the cost?

I've packed baby food/diapers, and other snack itesm in a large diaper box (92 or 125ish count) and it was about $16. UPS said the cost depends on the weight as well as the size. Just address it to yourself, (may want to add DVC member) and the boardwalk's address. I thought I saved that somewhere but I can't seem to find it. I sent it about 6 days prior and it was there several days before I arrived.

We just got back from OKW and shipped a rather large box the week before. They had it in our room when we arrived. When we left, we took it to the front desk and they mailed it back for us UPS. They even gave us their price which was less than I paid to mail it down.

I've sent a box addressed to myself at every DVC resort except AKV and I will do that in Sept. and had no problems except at BWV........and that was a minor one and due to the fact that BWI is also a convention hotel. It seems they have a "package room" at the convention center of BWI and I guess all packages addressed to guests are automatically sent there. We arrived on New Year's Day and my package had arrived via FedEx two days before (I shipped a day earlier than I normally would have because of the New Year's Eve holiday). Since it was a holiday, the package room was not normally staffed (no conventions on NYD)so, when we arrived and asked for the package which had been delivered (I had the FedEx confirmation that it had been signed for) they had to find a CM who had the keys for the "package room" so it took a few hours.......like I said a minor one and rectified within a few hours time. I think they ended up having security open the door to get it. I always address the box to myself/DVC guest and our check-in date on the first line, then c/o whatever resort it is as the second line, and then I use the address of the resort showing on my DVC confirmation letter. Never had a problem except the above using this method. I always try to get the package there no sooner than a day or two before our arrival (both FedEx and UPS have an estimated delivery schedule on their websites). I also print out the confirmation that the package arrived and was signed for in the event of any problems.

To Halle: My package usually weighs in at 25 lbs. and using FedEx costs me about $16...... I haven't sent anything since this past January, so with fuel costs it's very possible it's gone up since then.

I have to add if you're going to have to pay $25 for a second bag, then make darn sure that you're using the largest "legal" suitcase you can. Don't just use the "middle" or "smallest" one of a set of three pieces.

I just think that with the airlines wanting to charge $25 for a second piece of luggage, that they're going to find customers using the largest piece of luggage they "legally" can (and by legal or legally, I mean the largest piece the airline's own website says a customer can without having to incur a "large" bag additional charge) and it will be at the "legal" weight limit as well. So I'm not sure that the $25 charge will actually help defray the cost of fuel as they seem to think. :confused3

I also think that a lot more customers will be bringing more carry-on bags than ever before -- I know we will. And more carry-on bags means more loading time for flights and we all know how limited overhead space is.

I wonder what happens to that one or two individual who has the single allowed carry-on who gets on the plane at the end of the boarding line and there is no space for their carry-on in the overhead. Do you think the airline is going to charge them $25 for their additional piece of luggage because it now has to be checked? :confused3

Just something to think about. :furious:

Well, the airlines have also been enforcing their carryon policies......SWA limits you to one carryon and one personal item ........DH and I flew last week and I did not see any FA's actually enforcing this, but, I would imagine if people get crazy with carryons they will enforce it. Also, SWA is still allowing two checked bags so maybe that's why I didn't see anyone trying to bring a lot of carryons. However, I did read on another forum that other airlines are definitely enforcing their carryon rules and making people gate check items that are above the carryon limit.

You're right. Southwest (SW) is the only airline (that I know of -- and I'm no expert) that still allows two checked bag per ticketed passenger. I sure hope that doesn't change.

Obviously, the $25 second bag charge doesn't apply to Southwest. :cool1:

You shouldn't have any problems shipping to your resort. Lots of our Members ship their stash of Disney stuff that they want to store in their Lockers.

Send it to yourself c/o the resort; use the street address of the resort--you can find them on the OL site:

www.ownerslocker.com/locations

AND put your arrival date on the package
