Hi everyone, I am a newbie here but have been reading all of your great tips. Our family decided a few weeks ago to take the plunge and go on one of the West Coast trips since we live in Southern California. We found a Cat 9 room on the special 6 day cruise July 17-23. My question is the boat will be disembarking passengers on Saturday July 16 and we do not board until Sunday the 17th. I assume the CM will all be attending the 50th Birthday party at DL. Has anyone taken a cruise getting on an empty ship? Will we be able to go directly to our staterooms when boarding since they should have been empty for some 24 hours? I guess this would only happen after refurbishing or some other special events. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't expect to board a ship that was empty the prior night. And don't expect the crew members to be at Disneyland for the 50th anniversary event.

My understanding is that the Disney Magic will be used as a floating hotel for invited members of the press. It will be interesting to see if those folks all get off the ship the next morning when they're supposed to, especially if there was a lot of partying the night before.

The crew members will work as hard as ever -- without a day off.
