This is not an official review, just wanted to throw that out there!

I have dined there 3 times over the course of about 4 years. First time, DH and I were BLOWN AWAY! Everything from the food to the service was impeccable. Bar and restaurant were bustling with activity. A sexy, hip atmosphere + good food.

Second time...MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. Service was poor, food just "eh" and the place was dead. I feared it was the end of the road for BZ.

I posted this opinion a few times on this board when answering other posts about BZ. Most people told me I was crazy, it HAD to be a bad night, etc.

So, for our 13 year wedding anniversary, we gambled and tried it again. It was still DEAD (granted, we were there from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm, but even when we walked by again at 10 pm, very slow. Of course, it was a Monday night so that might have a little something to do with it.)

We go the 5 course tasting menu (I think it was $80 each) and I had 2 dirty martinis, DH has ketel and soda (I think 3). Also, be cause we are pigs, we shared an order of the shake and bake fries.:goodvibes

Food was OFF THE CHAIN good!:cool1: Presentation was incredible. And the service? Top notch. Jackie was our server. Stunningly beautiful with the sweetest personality.

We had our DD and her friend (both 11) with us (we did a quick, 2 night stay at AKV-Kidani) and they stayed at the Camp Dolphin. This is my DD's favorite kid's club. They both stayed free for 2 hours because we dined at BZ (they also do this if you dine at Shulas.) PLUS, BZ now takes the TiW card so we received 20% off our bill. An 18% gratuity was added, and then we also added $15. We also tipped the kids club gals $10 each. Soo, it was a pricey night, but again, an anniversary dinner. We will definitely return to BZ!

(PS-- I hope Peter Pirate is still on this message board and sees this! Also UncleR!)

So glad you had a great time at Blue Zoo & Happy Anniversary! :goodvibes

I'm really interested in the tasting menu you had. We'll be dining at Blue Zoo on Saturday, and I was planning on having the 2lb lobster (love that!), but the more I read about this new tasting menu, I think I might try that instead. Can you elaborate on what you had? Thanks!

Hi there!

I think I will email or call BZ and ask for a print out of the menu. It just said ""Chef's Tasting Menu" and that it was 5 courses. Luckily, DH and I are NOT picky eaters and did not inquire about anything. Of course, each item that was brought out was thoroughly explained...but a) it was a lengthy, detailed description involving lots of unfamiliar terms and items and b) I was well into my first dirty martini and was just sitting there, smiling as the waitress spoke.

First course was a fish on some puree. Pretty small and DELISH.

Second course might have been the best..a tuna tartare with some salmon roe...and the best part of all...a second server came out with a little sauce pan that was smoking with dry ice...and she sprinkled on some feeze dried thing...and the smoke was curling around the dish. Everyone at the bar and the tables near us stopped and turned and were murmuring.."What is that??""

third course was another fish, fourth course was a beef entree and fifth was a trio of yummy desserts.

I will contact the restaurant and get a list...because evn *I* am curious now! What the heck did I eat that tasted so good???
