We are planning on visiting the park on May 1st and am wondering if I need to be there right when it opens to get in? I have read on another board that there is limited parking and the sooner you get there the better, but I am wondering if that is just during manatee season or all the time. Help! That seems early to get everyone fed and up and then drive over there to be there a 8 when it opens. It is a Sat. so I am sure it will be a little busier than a weekday. If anyone has been there in May please let me know

No, you don't need to be there at opening. It's a nice place and you shouldn't have any problems in May at all.

It gets busier when the temps are cold, as the manatees are there.

We were there just after the big freeze and were lucky to be there early before the huge crowd. Leaving we passed cars backed up for over a mile all trying to get in to see the Manatees.

The boat ride/nature tour: St John River Cruises, is well worth the price. Our family rated it the high point of our entire week.

Hope you have a great time.

PS: we came across a local seafood restaurant not far from the entrance to the park and it was GREAT!
