Blue NBA fence at GF looks horrible!

I just think the fences are ugly by Disney standards. Even red or white tarp would at least fit in better with the GF theme. Disney is known for their attention to detail and overall appearance. I wonder how NBA feels about being stuck in the blue tarp? It’s really not a big deal overall, just unexpected by Disney standards.

What I don’t get is why they have they spread out and put dvc properties. Why not give them free run of gran destino and not even open Coronado to guests. Problem solved. As a BCV owner I bought there to use SAB and I can’t use it Bc the NBA wants privacy it’s BS. Lots of people bought at GF for the beautiful property and lake views. Those being obstructed by blue walls is also BS

As others have said, Coronado is not big enough to house everyone at first, and also Disney wanted to keep NBA guests close to conference centers since those are going to be modified into practice/team meeting locations. The thing is though, SAB is not being shut down for NBA privacy, since it's not going to be open to anyone. Without the NBA, the non-DVC Y&BC would have remained closed until the end of August. Given that BCV is relatively small in comparison to the non-DVC Y&BC, it would have caused a not-insignificant increase in membership fees to open SAB just for BCV just for those two months. I can't be sure, but I bet a majority of BCV owners would not have been thrilled to cover the full costs of running SAB for the next few months in increased maintenance fees, especially since I can't imagine many of them are planning a trip during that window anyways.

Regarding the walls at the GF, the blue walls are less than ideal, but there's nowhere in your contract that guarantees Disney can't do what they want with the non-DVC facilities. I mean it wouldn't be much different for VGF owners if the GF were under renovations or something. It's also only a couple months, it's not like this is a forever thing.

I suspect many of them don’t want to be confined to WDW for three months at all. With all the testing and isolation they have to go through a blue tarp is probably the least of their worries.

Given the grand scheme of things this is just so trivial. We have all lost something in this pandemic and nothing will be perfect right now. If people are expecting a perfect Disney vacation right now, they are setting themselves up for a very frustrating trip.

These are my exact thoughts too!
I really couldn’t care less if the NBA is there as it is not affecting my stay, but when I saw the blue fence I was just a little shocked.

Disney always makes things look better than that.

I thought at first it was just their starting point and it would be changed to something more easy on the eyes.

The NBA finishing their season at Disney World is providing an enormous amount of much needed revenue that will be used to build future projects and maintain beloved attractions that we can all enjoy.

We need to keep perspective as the parks reopen. This won’t be the last unexpected surprise like this I’m sure.
Exactly. For weeks people have complained and complained about WDW being closed. They lost an enormous about of money. Now they have an opportunity to recoup at least some of that and also to get ESPN back in business and people want to gripe. If you don't like the looks of the wall, book another resort.
Disney has guaranteed them a protective bubble so they have to do this. Could it look a bit better, probably but honestly that is probably what they had on hand and they are using it. Maybe they will add some plants.

Disney and the rest of the world are still in crisis mode right now. I agree that they could have done a better job, but who knows what access to vendors and contractors they have right now. It's not like Disney has an in-house fence team or can spare Imagineers for that when they are trying to remake the WDW experience work for COVID.

I don't think people on here realize how much money Disney is hemorrhaging due to the loss of revenue from NBA (or any sports) games on ESPN. ESPN has had pretty much no new content aside from the Michael Jordan and Bruce Lee documentaries (and honestly, due to how TV show filming works, ABC is going to be struggling come fall), and while ESPN garners a lot of fees from cable companies because subscribers want it, it still relies on ad revenue which has plummeted. COVID has put Disney in a position where it has to maximize revenue from all of its various platforms. The parks have been one of their most profitable divisions for awhile, but that's simply not possible right now. They know WDW will be a cash cow again, but I don't think it's going to be profitable in the near future. Disney is only opening the parks because it costs less to do so than keeping them closed. The NBA deal allows them to make money at the resorts while also giving ESPN (and ABC) much needed content, which will almost certainly bring them more revenue than what they are going to get by reopening the parks.

You hit the nail on the head. Gran Destino would have been a much better choice, one location!

You're probably right about the color scheme but for my old eyes it would be easier if I saw a blue tarp in front of me so I know 'don't go that way', than something that is more incorporated to look like it belongs there. Green (they had these in Epcot for awhile) would also not be as obvious and so I would probably be on top of it before I had to turn around and go another way.

Anyway the blue fence wouldn't bother me. I have a high tolerance for surprise **** at Disney.

Each player can (not necessarily will, but is allowed to) book up to 17 rooms. 450 players times potentially 17 rooms is 7,650. And they're not put [in] DVC properties. Yacht Club has zero DVC property. Coronado Springs' Gran Destino Tower has that exact same number of DVC property - zero.

I think it's 17 rooms per TEAM not per player. And that's later on in the tournament after some teams are eliminated.

The entire NBA wouldn't fit in GDT.

You are correct. From ESPN - "After the first round of the playoffs is completed, each of the eight remaining teams will be allowed to reserve between 15 and 17 hotel rooms for player guests. The number of rooms allotted to teams will be equal to the number of players they have on campus. Players will pay for the rooms of their guests."

So 8 X (max) 17 = 136, not 7,000+ rooms and by that point far more players and staff will have left the bubble than the number of guests now joining.

Awwww rats. Just realize these walls mean no walking path to MK in the near future. Was really looking forward to that.

I see I was wrong. Still, initially 22 teams times 15 players per team plus rooms for management, coaches, staff, etc equals a not insignificant number of rooms.
The entire NBA wouldn't fit in GDT.

Still, you need to include the number of rooms already being occupied by the players and team staffs. Probably Gran Destino will be full, or close.
