I am stuck for choice between Blue Lagoon and Cafe Mickey - I just can't make up my mind. Originally my first choice was Blue Lagoon because the setting seemed so amazing but recent reviews of the food seem below average and I have just read a review on DLP Food Guide which said there was a rat problem!! Has anybody else experienced this?

Cafe Mickey was my second choice but having read recent reviews the food seems nice and it seems a good way for the kids to meet the characters without having to wait around in the cold for hours. If we went early evening (mid-week school holiday) how busy should we expect it to be?

Any help and opnions good or bad of either would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Sarah

I've never been to Café Mickey, but I remember the last time I ate at the Blue Lagoon: it was really expensive compared to the very poor quality (and quantity) of food! I won't go again!

We have eaten in TBL three times and our food has always been well cooked and hot. Bear in mind it is a fish restaurant and the food is a little on the posh food side so portions are not for those with a big appetite or those who dont like fish !!!

Its the atmosphere and service that does it for us. Its is expensive in comparison to other restaurants but certainly worth at least one visit for its ambience.

We have never done CM but have booked for this Christmas. Its sounds fab and am sure any children would choose it over TBL.

IMO, they are like chalk and cheese though so a comparison will be difficult.

I agree, it is very hard to make a comparison but personally I would find it very difficult to visit DLP without a character meal fix. :wizard:

We have eaten at Blue Lagoon twice. I was dubious the first time after reading some dire reviews about the food and the service but both times our food has been delicious and the service excellent. Although it is predominantly a fish restaurant my DH enjoyed the chicken curry both times and another poster on here recommended the Jamaican beef.

We have only been to Cafe Mickey once but we had a fab time with lovely food and great service even though it was packed to the rafters ~ plus the character interaction was :thumbsup2

What would you prefer. Finer dining or character meal :)

I personally would prefer finer dining but can Blue Lagoon reliably be classed as this :confused3 ?

If it were up to scratch I'm sure it would be lovely but so many reveiws suggest it is not.

I can only speak from my own experience but I would say the food is on an equal par at both. :goodvibes It is the settings that are completely different. Blue Lagoon is very exotic and romantic, even with children in tow :rotfl: whereas Cafe Mickey has a very colourful, lively atmosphere which maybe gives the impression that the food is of a slightly lower standard. IMO it's not. :)

I agree with Elaine. Every time we ate at The BL it was a good experience - both in terms of the food and the service.

IMO its all about expectation levels v's the result.

We had none so the whole thing was a good surpirise for us. Waving at the riders going passed, the fab setting and the unique food. Im pretty much expecting Cafe Mickey to be the same in terms of the expectation level but if we hit in on a bad day, we could well feel let down.

Try one this visit and one on your next visit (what a good excuse to book again - LOL)

Good luck deciding - its a tough call

Actually, yes, we expected much better than we had the last time we went to the Blue Lagoon, as we were used to have a much better quality the 2 previous time. The last time we went was about 5 or 6 years ago, so maybe they came back to a better quality...

We have just returned and had a meal at both Cafe Mickey and Blue Lagoon, both of which were fantastic, although our server at BL was a bit stessed out, but I think he was new. We have never had a bad meal at Blue Lagoon or Cafe Mickey, so again it will just depend on what you are looking for...character interaction, or an atmospheric caribbean setting. As far as cost goes they both seem much the same (approx 90-100 euros) when my credit card bill comes in (and we always have a nice bottle of wine in BL)

I would say Cafe Mickey's because althought the atmosphere is mare exciting the food is very good. I like the loction of the blue lagoon but both times we have been the service was dire.
I think Cafe Mickey's is better for children and the Blue Lagoon may well not be open in the evening unless the park is open until late.

Hard to choose we've had superb meals and service at both CM and BL, but as previously mentioned it's the overall experience that's different.

Are you celebrating anything in particular ? For instance we celebrated DS's 7th birthday ath CM and it was a perfect setting with the characters and the general upbeat party atmosphere, the kids loved it. For my 40th we went to the Blue Lagoon, another fantastic meal, no sign of any rats BTW but this is a very atmospheric restaurant, try and get a table on the beach and you can wave to the riders, most of whom will wave back, kids loved this.

The meal at the the Blue Lagoon was the best I had during our last visit, another vote for the beef with jalapeno peppers and lemon potatoes, it was out of this world and for dessert the "Sugar Coated Expedition"

Don't think that by booking Cafe Mickeys instead that you will be compromising on food quality, because it really is surprisingly good. In WDW you tend to visit character restaurants for the experience not the food, but in Cafe Mickeys IMO you get both, and it's great fun.

Having said that I've always had good experiences at the BL as well. If I could only choose one though, and I had kids, it would be CM every time. Early evening school hols would be quite busy so you're best booking ahead, but I still think the experience is still great as it's well organised.
