Blue Bayuo Split fee question

People posted on Mouseplanet that the price just went up to $12 about a week ago, so maybe Disney Dining doesn't have the new info yet. Here is a link to the thread on MP: http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=125387
Wow, if anyone should know this first, it should be Disney Dining.

And I can't see them charging a $12 dessert split charge, seeing as most of the desserts are under $12 anyway...:lmao:

According to posters on the Mouseplanet the split plate fee has just gone up to $12.

OUCH! Seriously? I hope they wouldnt charge for the dessert. I am going to have to look more into this. My friend and I just wanted to share some dessert.

Also, on MP, some people said in addition to the $12 fee, they no longer are bringing extra sides. Apparently some people only got one soup or salad and they had to split that as well. They said they even offered to buy an extra soup or salad and was told they couldn't sell it to them. This tells me they are strongly trying to discourage plate splitting. :sad2:

What??? That's terrible!!!!! Well, that changes a lot of things for us and BB! :(

I made a reservation a little over a week ago and they said the split fee was $5. The CM didn't have much more to say about it that is why I'm asking. Just trying to find all the info I can before we go.

The first thing in making dining PSs is to know that the dining CMs aren't in the parks, aren't in the restaurants, and haven't even a single clue about the actual restaurants...they don't know when menu-ordering ends at Storyteller's, they don't know character scheduling, etc... sure they *should* know, but unless they have dined there recently and paid attention, it really doesn't seem that they *do* know.

I do see that one person here and one person on MP have mentioned $12 (I would love to know if they are the same person or if it's two people...not everyone uses the same names on various sites...case in point I'm hobbitfeet on MP), so I don't really doubt that.

But the soup/salad thing has been going on with SOME servers for almost a year now. And our server told us that it is NOT policy, that we ARE to talk to management, and that the whole point of the fee is that people are supposed to have their own sides. The server who said that put 2 portobellos on each of our plates, when a single plate would have only been 3 (number varies by size of caps, she said), and who brought out an extra side that we wouldn't have even had normally, and didn't charge us. She said that they are supposed to be generous, and that anything else should be reported.

Now that might have changed. But no one ever did hear from management what their absolute official policy was (even the higher-up from MP was supposed to find out from management but I never saw her "come back" to the old thread about it to update officially).

etc etc, and so on and so forth.

Their food is just NOT good enough for us to do $12 to split that portobello dish...and we have to make them change their wedge salad anyway, to keep it vegetarian, so we'd dropped them from our list after eating their twice (getting our own salads (and that extra side) and only being charged the $5 split fee each time) anyway...

Actually, on that thread, it was 2 different posters -- Eighty8keys and Disneylandgirl -- who posted that they had to split the sides, and a third (albertaminnie) mentioned she was brought a plate to split the salad but didn't mention if she would've been charged or allowed to buy another one. Stitch97 reported that they went on Monday (posted 3/26/09) and they were charged the $12 split plate fee, but didn't mention if they had to split the sides. It's not looking so good for BB... People will still go because of the ambiance, but some will have to think twice about the value...Regardless if management confirms, etc., it's happening already, and if it shouldn't be happening then somebody is really messing up in training their servers. It should be consistent, clear across the board policies, not some servers charging it or allowing extra sides and others not.

Seriously.

DizneeLuvr just ate there last week or two with her family and from what she posted she wasn't charged $12. :confused3

DizneeLuvr said she ate there "earlier this month."

On MP bisenhart said on 3/15:
My wife and I ate at the Blue Bayou on friday night. Awesome dinner of Surf anf Turf. Our waiter informed us that the split plate fee willl be goin up to $12 starting wednesday or friday I believe.

That would mean it wasn't going up until March 18 or 20, very possibly after the "earlier this month" when DizneeLuvr went.

Then Stitch97 (said location, Idaho) confirmed on MP that they were charged the $12 fee.

Then here on DisBoards DisneyLovingRN (said location, Pittsburgh) posted that they were also charged the $12.

Has it really gone up to $12? I have no idea, but the evidence seems to be supporting that it has.

It sure seems possible that there may be confusion about what a "split plate" is - not just among posters on Disney boards, but CMs at DLR and even the BB itself. Some folks just want to share one meal, so an extra plate or two is all they would get. It seems that others would want each person to get a full appetizer or side salad, etc.

Whatever the term "split plate" means, it's up to management at the Blue Bayou or other Disney restaurants to clearly explain what it is and how much it costs on the menu a diner orders from. Verbally trying to communicate such policies and changes has never worked well at Disneyland.

I think you are right. I don't want you to be right because it is redonkulous (sorry we just watched Bolt!) to pay $42 to share a plate of salmon! Last time we were there I just ate the crab cakes for my entree and they were meh. Nothing exciting. I can't eat a whole entree myself and can't order a la carte so it looks like BB may be off the itinerary...

Oh, and I'm with Molly about the whole Disney Dining knowing thing. They have NO clue what is actually going on in the restaurants or on the menus. When I had questions about Ariel's, there was literally silence on the other end of the phone. I knew more about the menu than the CM did.

This is just a question.....
We did eat there on the 11th & were charged $5.00 for the split plate. But as another thread had pointed out......all the character meal prices were jacked up during their "peak" season....so I'm wondering if they upped their price during spring break as well????

We also had heard from other posters in past threads that getting sides with their split entree varied from server to server....some got separate & some did not.

We were treated very nicely & didn't get the eye roll when we told them we were spliting our entree. The server was very nice & even commented that it really was a lot of food. We both got sides & a full plate of food. No problems.

As for what they're charging today???? I don't know....I was only able to comment on our experience 19 days ago.

We had lunch there Monday the 30th DW birthday. My two teenage DD split the Monte Cristo fried sandwich and we were charge $12 to split the plate. One got the Gumbo the other had the salad. Their portions on each plate was very large. The over all experience was not that great, service was just ok, food the same. Hardly worth the cost. We even waited for a water-side table and got the very end by the big oak tree, hardly water view. Not what I had remembered but it has been 30 years sense I last ate there. Thought I would treat the family to a nice experience even though it was a little disappointing and now they can say they have done it. My next Disney Dining experience will be the Napa Rose, but that will just be me DW; and I am expecting a whole lot more.:rolleyes1

Wow! Thanks for posting about your experience. Sorry that they raised the price so much, and sorry:sad1: that it was disappointing for you. Glad that they allowed one side for each person at least! Unfortunately, it does sound like it's turning into a 'been there, done that' type of eating experience. I know my DH can take it or leave it, and after hearing about the price increase I, too, am glad that I can at least say, 'Been there, done that,' because it will be a long time before we ever go back to eat there again. :sad2:

I agree with pp...take it or leave it. I think their food has gone down hill and service is spotty. And now with that 12 dollar fee I think it's a joke. I will go across the way to CO to get a MC if need be. Forget a water side table!

We ate a BB on Saturday night (the 28th) and let me just say we had great service. Better than, actually. It was by far my best experience there. We did get the split plate, but the portion sizes made it worth it, although we could have just split it ourselves without the fee and individual side salad/soup. I still honestly think it's worth it because you're still saving something if you're like us and you're going to eat there split plate or not.

Hmm...

*Gets out balancing scale*

Is there a split plate fee for sharing a cookie boat? And, is it still okay to go for dessert only?

Did you confirm this with the waiter? I'd just like an empty plate, and can split it myself. I don't want to pay $12 for an empty plate.

Yes, this was confirmed by the waiter. He gave us the option of the split plate fee where they bring you what you order on two plates, and you each get the side salad/soup or order the dish we wanted to split and they would bring out another plate for us to split it ourselves without the extra side salad/soup for no charge.
