We will be in disneyland in 2 weeks. My first trip, my husband hasn't been there in almost 25 years. We have been looking forward to eating at the Blue Bayou but just found out Pirates of the Caribbean will be closed while we are there. Is the expense of this restaurant worth it if the ride is closed?

I read somewhere they may put a wall up to obstruct the view of construcrion. That is my biggest concern.

Personally, I love the ambience of Blue Bayou; but I wouldn't do it if the ride were closed and there was a construction wall.

I'd still go if the ride was down, although I do like the uniqueness of watching the boats pass by. If they have construction walls up I think it would ruin the ambiance which is half of the experience at BB.

Yes- for sure wouldn't spend the money if walls were up. Maybe you can quickly poke your head in to see it so at least you would have "been there."

For me, the ambience is the main reason I go since I think the food itself is hit or miss. I would not spend that kind of money without it.

I say go ahead and make the reservation, as the ambiance is definitely still there without the ride running. Once the refurb starts and closer to your travel date, if there is news that there is a wall present then you can cancel your ressie!

I tried to book once while Pirates was down (honeymoon so bummed!) and they said that the restaurant wouldn't be open since the ride was down. I wonder if they were redoing the restaurant then, tho.

Ahhh man about the honeymoon. That's tough cheese. ;) BUT! That just means you need to have a redo. :)

I definitely recommend waiting until the POTC is shut down, before making a reservation. That way if a wall is up then you can make plans elsewhere for dining.
When there is a lengthy refurbishment or if the water is going to be drained, then the wall goes up and i've been told that you cannot see anything but that wall. Not even the meteorites shooting over head. Word has it that the water is going to be drained. But that is not official. It is rather a lengthy closure tho, at about 6 weeks.
You can always make a reservation, then if the wall is up, cancel it. You will need to do that tho 24 hours before the reservation.

Thanks everyone. We already have reservations for 2/9, the day we arrive so it will be to late to look in the restaurant and check out the view. I may try to call and see if someone there can tell me.

How long is the ride expected to be be down? We have an ADR for end of March...but will cancel if ride is still being refurbished.

I say just eat at cafe orleans. Food is just as good, cheaper, and no construction. Get a monte Criso and pomme fritte and you will forget you aren't in Blue Bayou!

We finally got to on our 10 year Anniversary! And this year we just happen to be there over our 14th anniversary (totally didn't even realize it when I made the plans) So we're doing it again. We've gotta do it as much as possible to make up for it right??
