Blue Bayou Strategy When Booked?

Called today to make a dinner reservation for Monday Oct 27 (that's 10 days in advance). I remember last time we were at Disneyland about 3 years ago I just made a bee line for the restaurant when Adventureland was open and made a reservation for the same day that evening. Must have been shortly after they instituted Disney Dining Phone reservations like in WDW which I loved since I like to plan ahead.

I was surprised to find the place is booked for lunch and dinner Mon and Tue! And they claim if you go to the restaurant first thing in the morning or any time that day, they'll just tell you to call Disney Dining and not even check the system for cancellations.

The food there is mediocre, we are just going because we go there once on our trips as a tradition and its a birthday celebration. I'm sure we'll enjoy the food better at Napa Rose.

So if we want the best chance to get in for lunch or dinner, what is the best strategy.

Step 1: Call Disney Dining once a day to check for cancellations every day leading up to the trip and the day of the trip.

Step 2: Show up around lunch (and if necessary around dinner) and ask to be put on a wait list for no shows? That might be hard though since our group size is 8. Good luck being there when there is a no show for a party of 8 or two parties of 4 or something right?

I'm sure a lot of people would say, if you've already dined there, just forget about it, you'll enjoy Napa Rose's food more than you'll enjoy Blue Bayou's setting, but boy that is sure a neat setting especially for a POTC collector/enthusiast like myself.

Problem is last time we sat the furthest from the water and frankly that was a rip-off to sit back there and pay those prices for mediocre food back by the kitchen/entrance! I also noticed the menu prices are the same for lunch and dinner with the exception of the Monte Cristo sandwich only available at lunch. BB is a text book example of supply and demand making something a rip-off. But that's the Blue Bayou for you.

Call and try to get a reservation. We skipped the reservation and said "we will just show up on the day and ask". We show up, they say "well were fully booked but if you come back at around 4pm we might have something for you."

We went back, but they said they could only seat us right away. It was good. But we didnt expect to eat right away. And they sat us at the back, farthest away from the water.

If you want to sit up against the water, call and try to get a reservation. Walking up just doesnt work (atleast it didnt for us).

Definitely call every day and try to get a table reserved. I guess reservation here doesn't work...try to get yourself on the priority seating list. A party of 8 is hard but perhaps you could ask if it'd work if you guys split into two groups of four? Anyway...best of luck to you! :)
