Mouseplanet is reporting that a waiter told a member this...and that it would start this week. I just read Tinkerbell Tris' report where a CM in the BB was rude to her for just ordering dessert. I am getting the feeling that BB is one of the few resort restaurants where people are only going for dessert or splitting entrees and feeling the revenue loss? Just a guess...

I can't answer on the dessert only part, but we had dinner there last week & we split everything (app, dinner, dessert) for a $4.99 charge. Trust me, the split plates are huge & we still couldn't finish everything!!

And see there are people on MP reporting differently, which makes me think (OK in my heart of hearts I feel that I KNOW) that it's all up to the server and it's NOT a policy, and that talking to the manager might help.

Old info, but in May we talked openly to a server about this (while splitting our portobello dish (she put two whole mushroom caps on each plate!) and each getting a salad AND she gave us a side of a vegetable at no extra charge along with the couscous/spinach that normallly comes with it) and she said that sharing a salad is NOT policy, and that if you get a rude server (who doesn't like that you only order dessert or wants to be skimpy with the split plate) to tell someone right then and there, b/c it's not their policy.

$12??? Never have I seen a split plate fee that high!! Yikes!!!! But I won't believe it til I see it.

I dont see that happening. It is spendy enough to eat there and adding a 12 dollar split plate charge will only make people mad. Like kerri said...I will believe it when I see it.

I have had 3 dining experiences at BB in the last 1.5 years. One was just me and 5 year old son, who would eat nothing. Server was very remote and completly non interactive, inspite of the fact that we were celebrating a bday (the rest of the fam got sick and had to miss out), son was darling and wore his menu hat and said, "argh" and "beware matey" to all the boats.

Next time was with a group of 8 of us. We were fairly unorganized and a bit unruly with kids and all, but server was very patient and very kind and helpful. There was a fair amount of splitting, and desert only and special orders etc.

Next time was a group of ladies, desert only. 8 of us. Some of us split. There was hot tea orderd (every server's nightmare!) and the server was just great. Friendly and helpful.

I think it is like any restaurant, in that it all depends on the server and when not happy, give a call to the manager:)

When we went to BB a couple years ago there was a $4 or $5 split plate charge but each person recieved their own salad and a full order of veggies/potatoes so to me that was worth it. But when we went again a few months back we were told that you could still split an entree but it would only come with one salad to share and all the sides would be split as well. I don't think they charged a split charge but I'd rather have the split charge and get to have my own salad (they are so yummy!). And since they don't allow you to order a salad by itself it was kinda dissapointing. I don't know if they've brought back the split plate charge along with the extra sides or not but we'll be going there on sunday so I guess we'll see!!

I was wondering if anyone went! I totally forgot about BB that night. :headache:

i pray not.
last year my son hated the food there an they took it off the bill
an my dh got sick so he couldnt eat anything poor him.
I liked mine an me an dh shared so he could have a bite.
we ordered the deserts an thats what we went there for. we still have the chest an sail. an I do like bb but next time we may not go just to much money sometimes. but if they ever raised it to 12dollers theyed lose alot ppl
an there changes to the kids menu didn't help them at all.

We split our dinner last Wednesday night & we both got a cup of the gumbo (we chose that over a salad) & our waitress was very kind. $4.99/split

Oh man... $12 is crazy! Thats an entire meal in itself at any other place (well...a place like Chili's or Red Robin). I was hoping that we could go and do the split plate thing for 4.99. I hope that its just the waiters like you've all said!

We ate there on Thursday....Our server was wonderful, very attentive and thoughtful. We had two different split entrees, two child's plates, lots of drink refill needs, and she was very good to bring more rolls and even spotted my DS's birthday button and brought him a chocolate mousse with a candle. The portions we adults and older DS received were supposed to be "half" but DH's and my salads were fairly good sized and my mom and DS's gumbo was a basic cup and they said it was quite filling. At the end of the meal we were all pretty full but I just had to order one cookie boat for us all to share, and our server even said "One will be enough for all of you!" She earned her tip and more.
Our food was certainly worth the $5 fee but I doubt we would have paid $12. Since the split plate fee is printed right onto the menu, I would be interested to hear if anyone notes a change in the menu wording or if they get charged this rumored amount. It would be a shame because I think splitting the entree makes for an affordable way to enjoy the beautiful ambiance of the BB.
