Blue Bayou,non water tables still worth going

Made reservations for dinner at 5:30 for 2 of us. I know how difficult it is to get a waterside table, is it worth it to go knowing that you probably will not get one? I think about San Angel at WDW. The tables by the water are great there, but you can be stuck in the back and those are not.

I don't know that I would call them 'not good'. It's not AS good. But I think as long as you're not at the table right at the kitchen (having people walk past you all night) you'll be pleased. The only exception is if you have kids....who will be sad to know they aren't at the water. I'd wait for them, but wouldn't worry about it for myself/grown ups.

I have eaten there probably six times at least and have never one time gotten waterside. Once I was the last row back, near the restroom. I still enjoyed all my meals there and I keep going back! I think in a way, Blue Bayou and being further back is better than San Angel because the dining room at BB is more separate from the waiting area and there isn't a gift shop right there like San Angel which just brings more distraction from the river theming. Like San Angel it is nice when you are close or on the water (I have only gotten that once in four times at San Angel) but I don't think its a deal breaker if you aren't. BB is smaller than San Angel so even if you are the last row, you are closer than you would be in the last row at San Angel.

We found that when we arrived about 20 minutes early for our reservations and indicated that wwe would wait for a waterside table if necessary, we got one before long. For us, it was worth the wait. We went twice!

Ive only been to the Blue Bayou once, but we got a waterside seat as we checked in a waited an extra 20 minutes. But I thought it was worth it. It was really fun to watch the pirate boats going by and seeing all the cute little fireflys flying around the bayou. To me it made the bayou a bit extra special.

We just ate at BB on Friday. The place was full (not taking any more reservations for the night) and it was long wait after we checked in 20 minutes early. We didn't request a water-side table, but we were given one.

Honestly, on that night I would have preferred something away from the water. There were a bunch of middle school and high school kids there that day and the boys kept yelling from their boats. It was really annoying. Also, there only seemed to be one tree that had the "lightning bugs" in it. And that tree wasn't near us.

I also agree with Amy&Dan. BB isn't as big as San Angel. So no matter where you sit, it's DEFINITELY worth it! The filet mignon is SO delicious, too.

Just call up disney dining to see if you can make reservations now, or when they are going to start accepting reservations for September. I wouldnt put it off, I would call soon just to make sure. But I think your chances are still goign to be decent.

Well, yes, it is outrageously over-priced. It was the most expensive meal of our trip. But it was worth it.

You get the option of salad or gumbo with your meal (gumbo is to die for!), and they bring you these really delicious rolls. DH had a Mint Julep and loved it. I wasn't very fond of it. I had about 1/2 of the filet which came with white and green asparagus and Bayou potatoes, and DH had the prime rib with the same sides, and he liked it as well. We decided to skip dessert becasue we were stuffed (too many yummy rolls, I think ). But they brought me a chocolate mousse with a candle in it for my birthday. I was able to eat maybe 2 bites.

So, over-priced: yes. But they bring you lots of food. Really no need for appetizers.

Also, if you like, 2 people can odrer one entree, but they have a $4 split-plate charge. It will save you lots of money, and most people I don't think could finish one dinner anyways.

DH and I always go to BB for dinner when we are in DL. It's one of our traditions. Yes, the food is expensive, but if all you want is the atmosphere and to experience it, go for lunch. It's not the same menu as dinner any more, which means you can't do what we used to do and book the last lunch reservation so we could have dinner at the lunch price, but the monte cristo sandwich is amazing, and it's cheaper. Remember that I said cheaper. Not cheap. It's still Disney, after all.

As for the question about the water table, I don't really enjoy being right on the water anymore. One table back is perfect. Some people are just kind of rude now when they are riding in the boats.

Oh, and be sure to book early. It's a pretty small place.

Last I heard, you could start making PS reservations 60 days in advance. I've made PS well under 30 days in advance with little problem during much busier periods than September. It never hurts to book as early as possible, but if you aren't too picky about the time of your PS and especially if you aren't going during peak season, it's not that hard to get PS for BB unless you wait until the last minute.

BTW - The last time I went at dinner, I requested a table "not too far from the water -- like the first row or two" and indicated that I was willing to wait a little extra. We probably waited an extra five minutes to get a second row table off to the side. It was great. The tables are pretty close together, so being in the middle of the room can feel a tab bit claustrophobic to me.

I always go for the Monte Cristo and have always waited longer for a water side table. I put my husband in charge of checking in and we sat by the door with bright light streaming at me this time. I was close to crying. This is my thing! I absolutely love waterside! I have kids who can be obnoxious on occassion, so noise from the boats wouldn't bother me I hope. I look at it like being on an attraction and eating at the same time. I always go for the Monte Cristo (hated the Mahi by the way). They also have a pirate boat dessert that is worth going for on it's own. It is a masterpiece of a dessert and delicious too. Get the dessert no matter how full you are!! This is Disneyland!

Ive got reservations there for june, and I have heard about that dessert before and I cant wait to try it. Thanks for the recommendation. I was wondering about this.

I totally agree about the cookie boat. It's called the Flying Dutchman Cookie Boat (at least it was last year according to the souvenir menu I have hanging in my cubicle right now). Also great was the Tortuga Trio of Creme Brulee, which has three kinds of creme brulee: chocolate, passion fruit, and vanilla bean. YUM!
