Blue Bayou...is it worth it??

I just looked at the menu, the only choice for the kids menu is steak? I also only see 1 dessert choice and no salad choice or the Monte Cristo.

Can someone tell what they have that isn't on the menu?

These are updated from October 10, but I glanced at the menu when I was there last week and it still seems to be accurate. Also, note that there ARE differences between the lunch and dinner menus. If you want surf and turf, for example, it's only at dinner. If you want the Monte Cristo, it's only available at lunch.

My DS8 (7 at the time) went to BB last Easter for dinner. Even with my reservations and showing up 30 minutes early as sugested by other DISers, we still waited 45 minutes to be seated. DS ordered mac n cheese and I ordered a beef dish. I can't remember at this point what it was. Both of us really disliked our food. The atmosphere is great and I am glad that we tried it, but I won't eat there again.

Is the food A-MAZING? No.
Is the ambiance incredibly unique? Yes.
Is there anywhere else on Earth that lets you eat inside Pirates of the Caribbean? No.

Is it worth it? Depends on what that means to you.

As for why I like it? I could stare at the little fireflies all night long! For me, I love the ambiance and the uniqueness. To me, it's "worth it." I know others who agree - and still others who don't.

I think you have to eat there once (every 15 years?) and decide for yourself.

Agreed. I debated forever about going. I decided to experience it myself last fall and my family agreed we liked the experience enough to make it a tradition. We have gone every trip since.

Again, the food isn't to die for, but it's fine. We are big WDW veterans who are spoiled by great themed restaurants. It's the experience for us.

After reading...I have to admit that I'm still very undecided. But this is partly due to my perfectionist nature and I think I just need to really evaluate it some more....

DH and DS have NEVER been to BB. Personally, I really don't need to go. It's a great atmosphere but I didn't feel that it was "worth it". However, I'm thinking of surprising DH and DS with dinner here, it is DS's 6th bday after all.

Can anyone tell me more about the split plate deal? For $12, the price is right. However I'm concerned with portion sizes. DH is a big eater and could most likely finish off his plate and still be hungry, depending on overall sizes of course. Do they split the entree literally in half? What happens if you order something like the surf n turf? Would each of us get half the lobster tail and half the beef and then a full serving of veggies and potatoes?

Also, I heard mention of a child's birthday dessert. Is this something special??

I really love the idea of making this a part of the family tradition. How neat would it be to have a "special" place that we eat a "special" meal at every single time we visit! Plus I just KNOW DS would love to eat dinner inside the Pirates ride! It's DH I'm concerned about....

I would definitely make a reservation. They serve dessert throughout the day, whether you go for lunch or dinner. If you do go and only get dessert, I would definitely tip a lot more than you would for a regular meal.

I remember someone posting pictures on these boards of their meal at Blue Bayou when they had split the surf & turf. One of them got the lobster tail on their plate and the other got the filet, but I'm not sure if that's how they do it all the time or if that's how they requested it specifically. They also bring you a bread basket, if you're worried about getting a little more food.

As far as portions, I've read some people say that the meals are large, but I got the chicken and my plate was bare at the end lol, so clearly it wasn't big enough for me. I'd suggest doing a search on this board (or a Google image search) of Blue Bayou meal pictures. You'll get to see some of the meals and gauge the portions.

For our family, yes it's worth it. But it varies based on who you ask really. For us it's the atmosphere, the food has almost always been very good (DD14 had the ribs, she didn't like them, they weren't "bad" she just didn't like them, service can be touchy at times, we've had a snotty waiter or two, but that doesn't keep us from going back) and we always leave happy.

I had always wanted to eat there but never had until last month. For me it will be a one time thing because of the prices but I felt it was worth splurging the one time. The food is high quality and very good. The service was very good, and of course the ambience is terrific. I can't see myself wanting to spend that much for dinner very often but I left there feeling glad I ate there as opposed to regretting it.

I would say no, only because it is inside and crowded together. The Dobies would rather sit outside and bask in the freshly smogged California air!

It's been about 4 years since I ate at Blue Bayou but I loved it! The atmosphere is wonderful and intimate. The dinner I liked but it was the dessert I really enjoyed I recommend it!!

We do BB every other year or so ... because we like the ambiance, and when we're at home I never eat filet mignon, so I might as well on vacation! The food isn't spectacular, but good quality high-end stuff (and the Mickey Creme brulee is also delicious - again not something I have very often). CO is our 'must-do' restaurant every trip for the beignets and Monte Cristo, BB dinner is a nice treat every once in awhile, and so is Napa Rose (NR once every 3 or 4 years due to how pricey it is). So once every 15 years, yes its worth it to treat yourself to BB.

Lets see, Yes. Totally worth it. I go to DL once a year and I try to do the BB twice, but always once.

The food and service are top notch and the ambiance is amazing. I order the NY Strip and my wife gets the fillet w/ lobster. She eats the fillet and I take the lobster. For two people with tip its usually around $100-$110.

This coming sumer we will be trying Steakhouse 55. It looks excellent.

I would try BB at least once.

I think it is worth to do at least once. You can't beat the atmosphere, especially if you have a table by the waterfront. I went last August with my little sister because it was something I have always wanted to try and I thought it would be a nice experience for my sister and me. The food was good, but not great, yet the atmosphere is what made the experience really fantastic.

And see, I feel the exact opposite. I have eaten at WCT and was not pleased at all with the experience, but we love BB and would go back without question.
