Dh really wants a blu ray player. Can I get a decent one in the low $100's? I see them on Amazon for that price, just don't know if they are worth bringing home. Also, does anyone know what I need to look for to know if they work with Netflix or anything else I need to look for? Dh is the techie, but if I ask, it won't be a surprise!

I know that Walmart is going to have a Sony blue-ray player for $148 this Saturday at 8am. I think that is just about the best deal so far. I am sure they will have more deals coming as Christmas gets closer.

You will absolutely be able to get a good one for under $150 come Black Friday.

I would avoid any Walmart version, those are cheap, made just for WM models that are often junk.

BF is only a couple of weeks away, I'd hold off until then.

Look for one with Netflix streaming, Youtube, Pandora, etc. and connections for audio and such on back. There are many of those such models for under $200 right now and it is sounding like there will be a few of those under $150 for BF.

Best Buy sells and Insignia one for $99 that will stream Netflix. For $199, they have one that will do wireless (you don't have to run a network cable to it if you use wireless network at your house).

Samsung BD-P1600 is $199 and rated very good by CNET. I am also thinking about a Blu-ray player. Just wondering if the picture quality is really that much better than regular DVD?

A good place for reviews, etc. is the Blu-ray website.

Otherwise, for the money, the Sony BDP-S360 that Walmart is selling on Saturday for an insanely low $148 is the absolute best player out there that can be had for under $150.

Hope this helps!

If you have an HD set, the answer is YES!! Just make sure you have an HDMI cable (which can be found on the cheap around the 'net) to make the connection...

If you were speaking of the $99 Magnavox players, I might agree with you, but...

...the model WM is selling this Saturday is the Sony BDP-S360, a model that is sold in many different retailers (as of last night, Target still had a $199 price tag on it).

That said, your quote doesn't apply in this case...

I'm trying to figure all this Blu Ray stuff out too...I'd love to get one for DBF but.....I know nothing about them! LOL

Do you have a fancy TV? If not, not sure it would be worth getting. jmho. We have a 1080i or p (whichever is the better one) and movies on the blue ray player look AMAZING!!! Planet earth movies - wow.

We have the HD Lcd. Personally, I think regular dvd's look amazing on it, I don't see why we need the Blue Ray! But, dh thinks otherwise... :rolleyes1 I probably would ignore his request, but we do use the Netflix movies through his Xbox a lot, but the Xbox is so loud it is distracting to me. And I really don't want to wear that out and have to replace it!!

Does anyone think their will be better deals than the $148 Sony one at Walmart today? DH wants one too and I'd like to spend really no more than $150 if at all possible. We do have the huge TV to use it with, so hopefully getting one really will be nice.

In my opinion there is no comparsion.

We bought our BR when they were first released and it has no way to connect to the internet (bad thing).

You do not necessarily need wireless but an internet connection is preferred because of BR updates, we recently rented a BRmovie from Red Box and it would not play because our player had never been updated and could not be updated since it had no way to connect to the internet in that case you have to call you BR player maker and order an update CD, in our case Sony it took about 10 days to get it.

So make sure the BR you purchase has an internet connection port or can connect wirelessly.
