So what's the deal with blu ray players and netflix? How does it work, do you need to have wireless internet? Are special cables needed? Does everyone who has it like it? Sorry for so many questions but we are just begininng to think we want to get one. Thanks for any info:)

We have a Blue Ray player with built in wireless and use it for watching Instant Movies on Netflix. You need built in wireless and a wireless router to do this. We like it very much - it's great to have all those movies available at any time, without planning ahead. The wireless router connects between your modem and computer.

I don't know about the blurays, but at least with our PS3 we needed to get a special disc from Netflix that for lack of a better term "unlocks" the streaming so we can get to it. You just pop it in like a regular dvd and then you can access all the streaming content. This capability is also coming for the Wii, hopefully in the next month or so.

I believe it only works with certain Blu-Ray players. Look for the Netflix logo on the box. Unlike the PS3 you do not need a disc from Netflix.

We have our wireless router sitting right on top of the Blu-ray player so it's plugged directly in (and we connect to the internet wirelessly with our computers).

We got ours with our TV in November and love it. When you turn it on, you just click on the Netflix icon and it pulls up your instant queue. You just scroll through the pictures of the movies and select what you want to watch. (It also saves your place, so if you only watch 20 minutes of a movie it will give you the option to resume from there or play from the beginning.) We got rid of our satellite service and this is mostly all we watch. They have older seasons of TV shows, so my kids are able to watch things like iCarly and Blues Clues and DH and I can watch The Office and Bizarre Foods in addtion to movies.

...snip

Some of the Blu-Ray boxes will have the Netflix logo on them but will be 'wifi ready' meaning that you will need to buy a wifi adapter or connect them to the internet via a cable. If it is ready to connect, it will say something like 'with wireless connectivity' and the price will reflect this.

Here is LG website with 3 players. The first 2 are ready to go, the last one needs a wifi adapter or a cable.

Oh, and we love it. Dumped satellite, saving $$$$

We have ours connected via ethernet cable. They actually recommend that. Wireless can be slower or have connection issues.

Connecting via cable would have also been our first choice. But it just wouldn't work out well in our house.

We have a wireless router right now...where would I be able to connect it via ethernet cable? I think our modem only has one slot on it for a cable. I think the router has more slots, would I connect it to that? I'm sorry to have so many questions:confused3 I'm not all that great at this stuff.

The router should have ports on the back to plug additional devices into it.

Yes. Use an open connection on your router.

And if you have multiple devices to hook up you can get an ethernet splitter box for about $15 that will allow you to run the main line from your router over to the entertainment center (for example) and then plug that line into the splitter and then plug each device into the splitter box. We have the Bluray, Wii, and DVR all connected this way and there are still 5 more empty slots we could use if we needed them.
