BLT pool sunlight questions

I am concerned that given the design of the resort, the bldg will cast a shadow on the pool area - is this correct and if so, when (what time) does this usually occur? also, is there anywhere else people can go to avoid this issue? My wife usually takes a "pool day" and I go run around the parks on my own, so I didn't know how much of an issue this would be.

thanks in advance for the help!

This worry was covered in threads the first week BLT was open. I believe the consensus was that the pool is far enough away from the building that it's not affected until late afternoon. And then the shadows would creep into the pool. Your DH wife could move to the beach area which is further away from the building. Or go over to the CR pool which might not be in shadows as early as BLT since that building is shorter.

She can also pool hop to another resort.

Here's the Pool Hopping rules that are posted on the member website:

Pool Hopping Information for 2009
Whenever you are staying on your Membership at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Vero Beach Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you and any Guests staying with you, are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a Host or Hostess at the Front Desk of the resort hotel you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools.

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas. There are no exceptions to this policy. As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members and any Guests staying with them may not pool hop during the following dates*:

November 23-29-, 2009
December 12, 2009 - January 3, 2010

Whoops, I was just checking the BLT Owners thread and saw this:

Te pool area itself was beautiful but because of the design of the building by 1:00 the pool was totally in the shade which made it very chilly.Maybe in the spring and summer months that will change. We ended up going over to the Contemporary pool which was awesome. We love our new home and are so happy we bought there.

So I guess in August the pool is pretty sunny.

That was one of the bummers when we were there in November. By mid afternoon the pool is totally in the shade. I was thinking it would probably be nice in the summer when it is soooo hot. We were disappointed to not spend more time there since the kids liked the slide better than the CR slide. But the kids did like to play in the sand and play in the pool at the CR. In November it wasn't very warm so we went over to the Contemporary in the afternoon. If you were on the far side of the pool there it was getting sun til 4ish. The sun was coming thru the gap btwn the tower and garden wing. I guess that is one of the great things about BLT we get the advantage of using BOTH pools.

Although I'm a sunlover myself, I think I'll actually like the shade. It will be nice with a toddler to not have to worry as much about him being sunburnt. But I realize I'm one of the very few.

This was an issue for us when we were there in October, I wrote about it in my trip report and posted photo's. By 2:00 the entire Main pool was covered in shade, for that reason we got seats by the splash area and it was sunny until 3:00-3:30, but after that the entire area was shaded. It was a bummer because in October without the sun it was chilly. I wish they would have taken this into account when placing the pool where it is. But we still LOVED the resort and the pool, just be sure if you are a sun lover to get a chair by the splash area instead of the pool area where the slide is.:thumbsup2
