I voted OKW, but I have really no desire to stay at BLT so....
I own at OKW and love it there.

Hey folks:

I know it must be wonderful to have over 200 points, and I totally get the PPs points about having the extra room.

However, from my 2 years experience, I have to admit that 100 points has fit our needs pretty darn well. I get to go to WDW every year now and we are about to take our 2nd trip to Hilton Head.

Its just the two of us and we can travel in the off season. On our last trip, we flew and our entire stay including food was still much less than our last Disney package at WL w/park tickets that didn't include air or food.

Plus Dh and I have had a pretty hard time financially over the past couple of years, as I have gone to working part-time as I finish my dissertation. Without DVC, there is no way we would have been able to go to Disney in '08 and '09.

Are there pitfalls to having a small contract? Absolutely. AP discount is practically useless for us, and going on cruises or trading out is very impractical. I'm pretty frugal too, and I know that we vacation at Disney more now, and have no problem covering the $500/yr. + trip costs. That makes 100 pts. perfect for us.

So why the addonitis? We really love Contemporary Resort, and I love a good bargain. That's why I asked BLT or OKW?

I didn't mean to start a small point/large point discussion.

I'll just say, BWV is a fantastic resort for the small contract owner.

Honestly, didn't mean to discriminate or make anyone feel badly that they can't own more points to afford larger accomodations. I'm sure Diane didn't mean anything by that either. Had no idea my post came off like that.

The OP specifically stated they didn't particularily like the decor/layout of BLT in the studios. They pointed out the kitchenette area---when you are paying that price for a resort that requires a premium number of points, I'd think one should really like it and want to stay there (heck, even dh and I are looking to add-on there but we already have 270 points and are looking at another 100 min at BLT.) If it were only 50, not sure we'd do it because it's so hard to stretch out 50 points at BLT because the nightly point requirements are higher than other DVC's. And with only 50 points, a studio is all they are pretty much going to be able to swing and the OP admittedly doesn't like it.

The OP also pointed out that they like the grounds of POR and the boat transportation to DD. OKW is much more akin to the ambience of POR than BLT is. BLT is in a more hustling/bustling area of the "World", while POR and OKW are much more laid back. Sort of like BLT is in the city and OKW and POR are in the country kind of thing. Much different feelings with these resorts.

And while I know the OP doesn't have children now, they will one day, and why not lock into today's prices for 100 points vs 50 points ?

I totally respect those that choose or prefer to only stay in studios. Never really worked as well for us. If one of the kids needed a nap, one partent would go back with them and have to pretty much keep quiet or sit out on the balcony. I'm sure alot of people with small kids, studios work just fine. I have always been one to say that everyone has different aspirations for what kind of vacation they want and what works for them and I think it's great since WDW has something for everyone.

So to cmbar and Anal Annie....never felt as if I was coming off as discriminating against those who prefer studios. The OP asked for opinions and even set up a poll. So I voted on the poll and was just giving my honest opinion on how I felt about the choice. If anyone was offended......by all means I apologize.

I probably got a little wordy again ;) :)

No Need to apologize  I think both you and Diane gave good advice and definitely it is a point well taken for families that think DVC is for that "home" feel. For us though it really is more a matter of getting to pay for future trips at today's prices and basically knowing that we will have a place to stay at Disney each year. I would never say I wouldn't love to stay in the larger accomodations, but at this stage in our life buying larger contracts isn't even an option. I wish is was :cloud9:

One thing I love about these boards is that you can always get multiple opinions and somehow you are able to narrow down how it is that you fit into a category. It is the same with the resorts or restaurants board. Lots of different people so lots of different opinions. My only concern (which wasn't necessary since the OP was already an owner) was that those of us testing the waters and dreaming wouldn't think it was useless to try and buy in small just so we can get on board. I am sure that once we try the large accomodations its a good possibility that we will have addonitis! So I apologize if I sounded like I was admonishing your posts. They were stocked with great advice and very respectful! :thumbsup2
