I am totally siding with Pete on this one...

As a DVC owner, with BLT as my home resort, one of the reasons we bought was for the lounge. It doesn't matter how much a non-DVC member is paying per night they won't come close to what I am paying to own at BLT and I would be more than a bit upset if I was not able to get into the lounge because non-DVC members were granted access over me, during my stay (due to limits allowed in the lounge). I have no problem with DVC members (who don't call BLT home) using the lounge if they are staying there on points, as they are "paying" well over the non DVC rate to be there by using their points for access as well.

I have two friends who also own at BLT and we have had this dicussion as well and they both feel as I do.

I'm not sure if I agree with one point, if I am a DVC member and I am staying at BLT but paying cash - for whatever reason, I think I should be able to go to the lounge. As you said, as a member and paying my dues I should have access.

What happens, for example you want to stay there for 7 days but you only have enough points for 5, so you pay cash for 2 nights. How would this work, you get access on only 5 of those days?

as non-DVC, i have no problem with the idea that the lounge is DVC only...

i'm just glad to know it in advance....when i first saw the pictures, i instantly wanted to stay there just for the lounge....but since i can't use the lounge i won't bother staying there....but i'm not upset about it...jealous to be sure...but i totally understand it being a private lounge for DVC owners....a wonderful perk to being an owner.....

Hi: First I am a DVC member OKW. We are going to stay in Feb for 3 nights at the Tower. I would agree that the lounge should be only for DVC members staying there unless they are not attracting enough patrons. In that case they should review their policy. Maybe certain times of the day/night allow non members staying there in?

John

Does anyone know the capacity of the lounge? They will likely need a lottery during Wishes even for the DVC members staying there. ;)

In any case, I am glad to see that the Members' Lounge actually materialized at BLT. I remember when The Attic at BWV was supposed to be a Members Only area with a view of IllumiNations, but for some reason it never happened. It is apparently used for special functions that are not DVC related. :(

My DW and I will be at BLT in February and hoping to get into lounge at some point during our stay. :)

It's not like they took an area that was once for all and made it DVC only. This is an area that was meant for DVC in a building Built with DVC money. I can understand people wanting to go in. Think of it as a concierge lounge for DVC.

I'm with ya 100%. Membership DOES have its privileges.

...WOOHOO! I broke the 100 post barrier!!!

However if there is not enough DVC owners going up and spending money I can see Disney changing their policy.

So If we DVC owners want a private lounge we need to go there and get us a BLT on top of the BLT.

As a DVC owner I can easily say I agree with this being DVC members only. But with anything that has restrictions, people will feel they are entitled and find a way to bend the rules.

This restriction will cause headaches and unhappy cash carrying Disney fans. Either way one side will get upset and it will be more of an issue than a membership privilege.

When i originally heard about the BLT lounge I really did think of it as as a concierge lounge for DVC. -
Does anybody know has anybody that is a owner staying on points been turned away ?

While I can see the side for the DVC Members who own at Bay Lake Tower and stay there on points, it's also weird not allowing access to the lounge to those staying there on a regular reservation, just because they are not DVC members.

Does anyone know if guests of DVC members staying on points can go into the lounge, for example we have booked 2 x studios at BCV one for us (2 x DVC members) and one for our friends (2 x non-DVC members). I can imagine if there was a large family that they (including the non-DVC people) would all want to enjoy the lounge together. Then there are people who rent points but are not DVC?

I'm sure once they have acertained the popularity over a few months they may open it up to others on a first come first served basis. But then what if they have to turn away DVC members if they are at capacity one night?

It will be interesting to see where this goes.

It was built as a perk for DVC members staying there, not for the general public.

Only DVC members staying at BLT and their guests may use the lounge per the latest newsletter so staying at BCV does not grant you access.

From what I was told by someone who was there last week they are asking to see your DVC card so renting points does not get you access. You must be the actual member

As of right now the rule is you need to be a DVC member staying on points at Bay Lake Tower, to have access to the lounge.

Believe me I realize that. However all I said was it's weird not allowing non DVC members who stay at Bay Lake Tower access to the lounge, because you would think that when you stay at any Hotel you would be allowed access to all of it's amenities.

I think this is fair. I rented at a number of DVC properties before buying DVC. I always felt that I was getting a bargain, deluxe accommodation at a much lower price. I never asked for any of the DVC perks as a renter, but occasionally I'd be given a discount when paying with my room card because it says DVC member.

I understand your confusion. However the lounge is not an Amenitie of the Hotel it's a club for members.

Just like Concierge Lounges are not Amenities of a hotel either it's a perk that you have to pay for.
