BLT availability in October? (Renting points)

My fiancé and I would like to honeymoon at WDW during the last week of October in 2014 (way far away, but I like to plan ahead). We have our hearts set on staying at the Contemporary and are looking into renting DVC points (likely from DVCrequest) for a studio at BLT (either standard or lake view is fine with us but we'd prefer standard). We're not concerned with DDP or any special ticket pricing, but we're hoping to attend F&W and MNSSHP!

My question is, how likely is it that we'll be able to rent at that time of year? How far in advance can we set it up? (I know BLT owners can reserve 11 months in advance, wasn't sure if that applies when renting out points.)

If it seems really unlikely that we'll be able to secure a room far enough in advance, we're thinking about just getting a room at the Contemporary. Is that stupid for us to do? I'd really prefer to go DVC rental, but I don't want to risk not getting the room we want, I'd like the peace of mind knowing we have a reservation sooner rather than later. I know I'll be in full wedding planning mode by then & don't want one more thing to have to stress about!

I would book 11 months out, you can do this by renting points from someone who has BLT as their "home" resort. I had intially booked the beginning of Oct at BLT and was able to get a lake view for 4 nights in a studio. Studios book up fast, as do MK and Standard views....

Since you're renting - as long as you rent at 11 months out and David has a BLT owner lined up, then you'll get it.

So do plan ahead, and put your request in a few days before your 11 month window opens. I've booked renters (thru David's) at 11 months at BLT since I'm a BLT owner.

You may want to make friends with an owner at BLT now, so that they can make that reservation for you when you need it. Often the points brokers don't have those points needed at exactly 11 months out to make the reservation. BUT, do not respond to any private message or e-mail you get that you did not initiate. That is how the scammers get your money. If you get any, let the moderators know so they can handle the problem.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I actually do have friends that are DVC members, but their home resort is BWV and they're usually at Disney around that time of year. I suppose this is a good excuse to make some more friends!

I would start looking at the Rent/trade boards a few months before the 11 month booking window. Before we had our own points I would start looking for an owner 13 or 14 months ahead of time and give them a deposit before booking. If you wait until a few days before the time to book you may be disappointed.

That is a high DVC demand time, particularly for near park resorts. You should plan on finding someone who can make the reservation 11 months out from date of arrival. You will probably have time beyond then to reserve lake view but if you want standard view you better have someone who can do it first thing in the morning exactly 11 months out because standard view will disappear quickly once the 11 month window opens.

I have two relatives trying to rent from David's for March 2014 at BLT. He does not have any BLT owners right now with points. Don't count on David's if you can line something out on your own.

You could post points for rent on the board but they can not post a points wanted thread on the board. The rules changed a couple of years ago I believe.

OP: start looking for owners with BLT points a few months out from the 11 month mark to set things up.

I believe that users aren't allowed to post any "points wanted" threads on the DVC Rent/Trade board, unfortunately. I'm going to keep my eye on that forum for anyone willing to rent out BLT points though! You let me know if you decide to rent out those points, because I will definitely be on board to rent them!
