We are hoping to take my brother (who is in a wheelchair) for a quick trip in January, and think BLT would be the best place to stay for ease of access to 2 parks (monorail). I am wondering if there are handicap accessible dedicated 2 bedrooms vs. lock-offs, and what might be the advantage of each? Will try to book standard view, but I'll take lake view if necessary.

This is the 3rd trip planned since buying our BLT points, and haven't stayed yet!:rotfl:

I looked at work2plays thread regarding room views at BLT. At the bottom of the first post is a list of rooms reported by DISboard readers. Several list that they are handicapped accessible rooms. I could not tell if they were dedicated 2 BRs or lockoffs or whether or not they were wheelchair accessible (with a roll in shower) or a villa with chair rails in the bathroom. I remember when reading the thread that several rooms had roll in showers and some had lower beds in the master bedroom that would be easier for a wheelchair person to get into bed.

I would think it would be best for you contact MS and tell them your needs and find out if BLT has a dedicated handicapped 2 BR. Be sure to let them know if you will need a roll in shower. I remember reading one poster stating that he was not given a room with a roll in shower and luckily they were able to switch his room.

Good luck.

We stayed in a dedicated handicap accessable room for the holidays. I believe it was room 8412. It was lake view room but we looked right at Cinderella's Castle and watched the fireworks every night. I can never figure out how to post pictures or I would post some of our view. We watched the pre NYE fireworks from our room and it was fantastic. I had requested lock off and near the elevator. We got dedicated and near the elevator and I would want this room every time.

Thanks to you both! I'm not sure if he would need the roll-in shower, but I bet he'd like one. I had planned that my husband and I would stay in the master, while he would stay in the "studio" portion, so that made me wonder about lock-off vs dedicated. Guess I'll just have to talk with MS.....:goodvibes

The second bathroom on the dedicated did not have a roll in shower only the master bath. I have been told that if you get a lock off you can request that the lock off studio can have a roll in shower if needed. Otherwise the tub would have grab rails.

Thanks - that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for! Now just have to wait a few days to call....:cool1:

Booked the trip this morning and thought I'd update in case the info was a help to anyone else...

First, no handicap accessible 2 bedrooms are standard view. I had to get Lake view (no biggie, am looking forward to that!). Don't know if they are available in MK view, didn't ask.

Apparently both types, dedicated and lock-off, are available as accessible. However, the bath in the one bedroom may also be accessible if the studio is, too. Hate taking an accessible 1 bedroom when I only need the studio to be, but I think my brother will appreciate having his own door in/out (and a little more privacy away from my kids). :guilty:

If anyone is dying to know if this is, in fact, true, I can update again - in 11 months....

I am rehashing an old thread because I am curious what room the op received. We have the same exact situation for our upcoming trip. Right now I have a separate studio and a separate one bedroom book at AKL for this same reason because my brother needs the roll in portion in the studio. I may have to do the same if I am able to book BLT because I see the lock off is already not available.
