Hello! I am anxiously planning a trip to BLT in Dec 2015 and was wondering if a 2 bedroom dedicated or lock-off would be best for our trip. Travel party includes DH, DD age 3, TBD age 1, me, Grandma & Grandpa. I expect DH, myself and TBD age 1 to stay in the master bedroom, DD age 3 in the living room, and Grandma & Grandpa in the 2nd bedroom. I've asked my parents if they would prefer a dedicated (2 beds) vs a lock-off (1 bed, mini kitchen) and they tell me they don't care. Is one better than the other? As of now, we are thinking of TP view if available and Lake as a backup. Thoughts? Experiences? Or does it really not matter?

I would say a lock-off based on the anticipated sleeping arrangements. Having the grandparents in the studio portion of the lock-off would be like them having their own room.

If it was going to be young children in the 2nd bedroom, then definitely a dedicated.

For the way you have described the sleeping set-up, you would likely be better off with the lock-off because you are putting only two, the grandparents, in the second bedroom, and the studio with the couch rather than second bed would give them a lot more room space and their own mini-kitchen. We have gotten the dedicated in the past but that was because the second bed was needed and the beds are more comfortable than the pull-outs.

Note I am assuming your are a BLT owner because if otherwise, be aware that if you want a 2BR in any view category at BLT during the first week, second week, or Christmas week in December, you have a high risk of not getting it at 7 months out (those are the three highest DVC demand weeks of the year).

Yes, we own at BLT so I was expecting to book right at 11 months out. I was also leaning towards the lock-off for the extra room for the grandparents. They are always so helpful and I'd like for them to be comfortable and able to spend as much time with the grandkids and still have their own space. Thanks for the thoughts!

Will your 3 yrs old stay by themselves in the LR if they wake up at night? Isn't there something funny (sheers) about those curtains...I can't remember..we had a dedicated 2 bedroom TPV...loved it! I would opt for the dedicated or put the young one to bed in grandparents room.

They'll have a little more space with the dedicated plus the 2 beds if there's a chance the 3 y/o will want to sleep there. With the L/O they'll have direct access and the mini kitchen. If they tend to stay out later and the child will be asleep, they are early risers and need coffee or similar, I'd go L/O.

Me too...I would opt for the dedicated and have grandchild sleeping on the second bed. If grandparents want coffee early, the living room will be free.

We pretty much always go for a lock-off when booking a 2BR. It has the advantage of its own temperature control (visions of a mini-thunderstorm at the door between the two), plus another toaster & coffee pot for getting everybody going in the morning.

Just wanted to note that the fireworks are very loud with at TPV. We had a 1-BR TPV this summer and was surprised how loud they were. I think many kids sleep through it, but I wanted to let you know. A lake view might be a little quieter.

We're a somewhat similar setup, we'll have a 4-year old and a 1-year old when we go in August 2015, and then my mom and sister in our 2-bedroom. We originally were going to go with the lockoff so they had their own entrance, but since my mom and sister aren't going to share a bed, we ended up going with the dedicated so they each have their own bed. While my son will be staying on the sleeper chair in the living room, he's a heavy sleeper and will likely be up most of the time that the rest of us are up anyway. DD will be in a toddler bed/crib in the master bedroom.

My wife's family will also be going and they will also be in a dedicated 2-bedroom, so we'll have another living room available to us if we need it, although I have a feeling that we'll be crashing soon after we get back to the room at night anyway.

We have a very similar setup and we chose a lockoff so my parents can have their own space.
