Hello,
We are planning a food and wine trip later this year. All thoughts are appreciated.
If you have stayed in standard view room, what were your thoughts on the location?
Were you able to get a room that was not on the first floor?
Would you have preferred a lake view or is it worth the point savings?
Thank you,
Mike

We had 1st floor and didn't care for it because there's no window sheers and we didn't care for people walking by able to see in. So we had lake view the 2nd time, and will the 3rd time in Dec. It's worth the point increase to us.

I stayed in a 1br lake view some time ago (fantastic view), and a few weeks ago I stayed in a 1br standard view. It was probably one of the best standard view units at BLT, on the 3rd floor, overlooking the courtyard, with the pool in the background, and a partial lake view. The unit above mine was considered lake view.
If this unit had been classified as lake view, it would be disappointing. But as standard view, it was great. (It was unit 7311).

We stayed in a standard view 1Br in October. Room was on the 4th floor. When you looked down you saw the delivery area and the parking lot. If you looked off in the distance, there was Space Mtn.

Would I spend more points for a lake view, probably not. But then I love the standard view at BWV, too.

Our first trip to BLT a week after it opened put us ina first floor room. IT WAS THE WORST location ever. I would rather stay at All Star Sports (The Red Roof Inn of WDW...) rather than EVER have a first floor room. No privacy, etc the one post noted.

Last year we had a lakeview. WOW! Made the tirp a great time. Do whatever you need to avoid first floor.:scared1:

Thank you all for the feedback.
We have requested a high floor with our reservation.

Like DVC John, we had a 1bdrm standard view on the the 3rd floor a couple of weeks ago. It had the same courtyard/pool/partial lake view. I thought it was great- it exceeded our expectations.

We are staying in a 2 bedroom LO in August and I did something similar. I put in a request that simply states "not first floor". I hope that at least gets me floor 2.

I have stayed at BLT 3 times so far. The first time was in a Lakeview that was on the outer rim looking to the left at MK and Bay Lake to the right. Loved it! Second time we had a Lakeview room overlooking the Marina. I think it was 4th floor. Loved it! Last October we stayed in a standard view, first floor, again facing the marina. Although I don't mind the first floor rooms I've had at SSR, the standard view at BLT was not private at all and as OP noted above there are no sheers and to me that is the real issue. I felt that I needed to keep the drapes closed all the time. The location was fine but I probably would say for us not worth the points savings just for that reason.

You probably have a 50% chance of being on the 1st floor. If that chance is too high for you then i would change to lakeview. We had a first floor room and didn't mind it but again it depends on what you want. We normally keep the drapes closed unless we are on the balcony/patio and i like being able to quickly walk to the pool- DH doesn't go so i just walked out the back door and he let me in when i got back.

Thank you all, we are going to roll the dice. It's a split stay, so we will be able to check-in early. I can remind the cm of our request when I check-in, and let them know that we will wait for the room if necessary.
I am sure things will work out. There will probably be folks who are checking in the same day, hoping for a fist floor room so that they too can walk out to the pool :).
At worst, we are at a great location, received great value for our points, and we will be in "the world".
At best, we may have a 2nd floor view of the pool.

John I think I had this same room! It actually was supposed to be a lake room and I got charged for lake. While I was there I called MS and said NO WAY I can't even see the lake. I had to go to Contemp and speak to a manager and they gave me the difference. This was in Oct of 2010, so I hope they now have it a standard view. It was right over the boche ball court and yes a great view.......but not of the lake.

I had a 3rd floor standard view studio in Nov 2009 facing the pool and we had a bit of a lake view. The room was great and we too were told the 4th floor room right above us was lake view. In fact, this view was better than my magic kingdom view 1br (on the 7th floor) a few months earlier where we had a great view of the monorail and the parking lot and a touch of MK. This upcoming trip DH wanted standard view again but I'm trying for a lake view, it was only a difference of 10 points over 4 nights and I'm hoping for a high floor.

Good luck, I hope you get a high floor.
