Blowing your horn in traffic doesn't make things move faster

One day I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and this woman behind me was constantly beeping at me. She was behind me for a few miles and I don't think she stopped beeping for more than a couple seconds. She beeped the worst when I stopped at a green light to not block the intersection. She kept beeping and her arms were flailing. I can't imagine getting that worked up over traffic.

Ha!! I'll sit there longer as well.

And I've been known to sit through a green light if the person behind me leans on the horn the second it turns green. I'll honk at a green light if it's been a couple of seconds and they aren't moving, and I've appreciated a honk if I'm zoned at a green light (which happens), but there have been times when the light has barely turned and the person behind me is laying on the horn. In that case, we have a lovely couple of minutes viewing the light.

So, again, everyone behind that honker is also punished?:confused3 I just don't understand that. I have honked at someone after 2-3 seconds because some lights are so short, and it is necessary to MOVE when the light turns. Just because the person in the front is out for a Sunday drive doesn't mean we all want to sit through an extra light.

I hate those people. The law here is that you may not block any intersection. The normal people don't enter an intersection unless you can clearly exit. I wave at the people who honk and honk for me to proceed, but I won't do it. I pretend that I know them and the results are funny.

We have a crazy person in our neighborhood who is elderly. We also have those counters that tick down at a crosswalk so that people know the light will change. This idiot fogie HONK-HONK-HONKS the second the ticker gets to 1 second. As if anyone in their right mind would enter an intersection BEFORE the light turns green. He lays on the horn until the light turns green and the cars in front of him drive off normally. I think he needs to be deprived of his license.

Yeah that's the law here too altho nobody abides by it. I usually don't honk when people do this because it's the law and they don't have to. I do honk if there is a long pbreak in oncoming traffic and these same people aren't turning (void of a red arrow or whatever) then that's annoying becuase the lights are sooo short for some of our turn lanes that the only way to get ahead is to turn during the regular green light and breaks in oncoming traffic.

I like the timers they recently put in here because it lets me know that the yellow is coming so I can slow down and not have that awkward don't know if to speed up or do a massive brake! We have some that when it gets to 1, the light turns yellow and others that it gets to 1 and then blinks a few times before the light turns yellow. I just follow the if its anywhere near one I'm slowing down.

We just moved to Northern VA and the car honking is horrible  Heaven forbid you sit at the light for 5 seconds after it turns green, you here a chorus of honks. But here you really should wait for a few seconds before you go, because drivers here don't seem to want to stop when the light turns yellow. I'd rather get honked at then get t-boned

5 seconds?? I'd be honking too. Around here if you sit at a light for 5 seconds, you might as well pack a meal because you'd be there sitting there all day. Seriously, there are some lights that are only green long enough to allow 3 or 4 cars through and when traffic is backed up at rush hour, you really need to be on the ball or you're going to make a lot of people very angry! I guess it just depends upon where you live.

Take a look at your watch. Five seconds is actually a long time to delay.

Five seconds would definitely elicit a quick honk from me.

I merely take a look to verify that oncoming traffic is stopping.

What I hate are the NY cabbies and other drivers who honk the NANOSECOND the light changes. Can I put my foot on the dang gas peddle for heaven's sake?

When I moved to NC from Long Island I was floored that practically nobody honks down here...for anything. Maybe they don't know their cars have a horn? I've seen folks sit behind a driver for an entire grren light without honking or anything.

I miss honking! I think I'm the only one in GA who does it!!:lmao:

I don't mind honkers, now SLOW drivers tick me OFF!

Totally! There's a left-hand turn light on a major street I travel daily. I've timed it:

Turn light is green: 7 seconds
Wait time for next turn light: 60 seconds

Just another reason to hate cell phone users who sit at a light chatting away and don't realize that they have a green light. When someone finally honks at them and they realize their light is turning yellow, they go through and everyone else behind them has to wait again. It works fine when everyone's awake and paying attention, but it just takes those few fools who think the world revolves around them to back up traffic in the left-hand turn lane.

What I hate is when I'm trying to make a left turn on a busy street and the person behind me decides I'm not being aggressive enough and lays on the horn. While I don't intentionally sit there longer to piss them off, the only thing the honking accomplishes is to distract me and make things worse. UGH - I hate left turns and often I just avoid them by taking a right and then a u-turn.

Someone did this to me just last weekend! Followed by screaming obscenities at me out thier window (with my daughter in the car with me) Jerks...

And then the person behind them won't inch into the intersection becaause its "against the law" and there goes another round of lights you have sit thru..:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl:

(sorry not poking at the PP that says she doesn't do it) but you have to understand when you live in a city that has MASSIVE traffic, every car and every second count! and those 2 cars going during the yellow light really do count!!..:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

which then invokes the people who wait till every car has fully stopped and no one has taken a light and then proceed thru the intersection after taking the 5 seconds...:rotfl:
:rotfl2:
just poking fun at the whole thread guys dont take me seriously just in a humor mood with these smileys but its funny if you take every account then those 5 seconds do cause backups if you use the above as an example.

some of us are horn happy (me, me me!!...lol):lmao::lmao::lmao:

People have no patience these days.. They expect immediate gratification - regardless of the circumstances..

People are always in a "rush" - because they don't allow extra time for situations such as this; weather conditions; etc..

Road rage - "Get out of my way or else!"

Ignorance.. Where are you supposed to go when there is a line of traffic stopped in front of you? Over them??

Best thing you can do is simply to ignore them.. Turn your radio up louder if it gets to be too much..;)
