Blowing out 22 candles in Disney World! NEW 8.24 page 25

92 more days and Some exciting news...I did my taxes last night and turns out I'm getting a bigger refund than I thought! :cheer2:

Now where to spend some of that extra money? Lauren and I were talking a few days ago about her wanting to upgrade to a different level of resorts. I thought it wouldn't be worth it for me since I really don't need the extra space and Pop century has always been just fine for me. I stayed at CBR last year for one night before a cruise and that's the only time I've ever stayed at a MOD. Well now I looked up the same package I have now just at an MOD resort and it's only $200 more. Thats a good deal and most likely the cheapest I would ever be able to stay at an MOD for the length of stay I have. Plus I was looking at the Coronado Springs resort and it looks beautiful. This is the longest on property trip I've done so there will be more downtime to hang at the resort and relax. I don't know though is it worth the extra $200? So I came to get some opinions!!! What would you guys do? :goodvibes

I did upgrade, but not to AKL. We're staying at Caribbean Beach :goodvibes It'll be nice to have the fridge and extra space. And I'm looking forward to spending some time on the beach!

How exciting!!! I've been thinking of upgrading to CSR and giving a mod another shot.

The beaches are beautiful at CBR you will love them!

I did a bit of a walkabout around Port Orleans and it looked pretty neat so maybe check that one out as well. I've heard the CBR and CSR are nice resorts but more geared to convention people as opposed to Disney people.

I just did my taxes too and am looking forward to my refund!

Unfortunately we've never stayed at Coronado Springs so I can't help you there. But one thing that I've always enjoyed doing is visiting/staying at all the different resorts. If you think you are going to be spending more time at the resort since you're staying longer, I say go for it!

Hey - time is flying for you, Cheryl! Reading about you and Megan made me want to do my taxes - I'm getting a lot more back than I expected, too. Woo Hoo! I stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort last May. It was a beautiful resort. My room was pretty. It was nice walking by the lake every morning. There was a cute little duck family that I would pass every day, and all sorts of neat birds hanging out by the main building. They did have a long beach, and it was fun walking in the sand. The food court was themed so that it looked like you were outside. I did enjoy it. One thing I wasn't expecting was how isolated I felt. That resort is really spread out (I think Coronado Springs is similar). They have about 9 bus stops, so it's nice to get dropped off and picked up close to your room, but I think I actually like the hustle and bustle of the All Star resort I stayed at in October better. (I still haven't stayed at Pop - maybe this December). I liked that the All Star bus dropped us off right by the door to the gift shop. I would feel exhausted at the end of the day, and walking through the gift shop would perk me up. I also liked that the food court was right there, even if I just wanted to pick up a napkin and fork for my leftover dessert to take to my room. I also liked walking to my room past the All Star main pool, and seeing all the little kids splashing and playing at 10:00 at night. At the Caribbean Beach resort, the main pool, and of course, the food court, were way far away from my room. It was a long walk down there every morning to get coffee. I don't know - I think I just spend so much time by myself anymore that I like the livelihood of the value resorts. It adds something to the vacation for me. I know that you can request preferred rooms at the moderates, as well, which would make it closer to the action. I would definitely do that next time. I tried to upgrade at the last minute last May, but they were all booked. Anyway . . . . :wave2:

I say go for it! Especially since it's a longer stay. You can't beat the prices and I think having the fridge and stuff would be nice for snacks, etc. :thumbsup2

Good for you, getting your taxes done already, AND getting more back!! We haven't done ours yet....bad.

That's a tough choice! I will say, that CSR is the one mod I'm REALLY wanting to try, seeing all the pictures of it, it does look beautiful! I know that its a pretty spread out resort, so if you are way out, you may have a ways to walk. Have you seen the pictures of the recently updated rooms though? AWESOME. I'd be tempted too, but, I know how much you also love Pop. Is it worth the money, is the main thing. Is there anything else you could or would rather spend the extra money on? Touch choice, but hey, either way you go, its Disney and you'll have a blast!

Ooh! A possible upgrade! I've only stayed at Pop, so I can't help with opinions, sorry. I did have 2 nights booked at POFQ for December, but you know what happened with that one! I'm hoping for a trip this summer, which I'll probably stay the most at Pop, but I'm thinking I might add a night or two either at an All Star, or maybe at POFQ. I think it's the connection to French that I like about that one. Take lots of pictures no matter what you choose! LOL

Looking at the Disney site POFQ and PORS are sold out. The only thing that I can get is a King bed room at CSR or a pirate room at CBR.

Yay for getting your refund soon too!

I'm leaning toward it. I actually have a pro/con list going! It would be so exciting to stay somewhere new.

Hey Julie! That's awesome you are getting more than you thought too! I had the same thing happen to me at CBR last year too. I felt like I was really on my 'own' and didn't see anyone around. I figure this time I'll like that since I thinking of having a non park day and will like relaxing at the quiet resort. I know what you mean though about the values! I love seeing all the people around.

How is your planning going for Disneyland? You must be getting so excited! Are you and Megan still meeting up? Your going to have a blast!

I say go for it! Especially since it's a longer stay. You can't beat the prices and I think having the fridge and stuff would be nice for snacks, etc. :thumbsup2

I'm really thinking about it. You are so right about the prices!!!

The pictures look beautiful of the new CSR rooms! I do love Pop but I think I'm ready for a change (for one trip at least). I wouldn't normally be thinking of changing but where the 4/3 deal is out it really cuts the price of the MOD which I wouldn't normally pay the price for.

POFQ looks so beautiful! I do agree with you I would love to stay there (and I think it does have to do with the French connection)! Lol and you know me there will be TONS of pictures! No worries there!!!

Hey again Cheryl :) I look at Disneyland hotels every day. My sister and I have decided that we definitely won't go in May, so I am going to miss Megan and her mom :guilty: We found out that because Disneyland is in a residential area, they cannot have nightly fireworks until school is out in mid-June, and that they rarely have nightly parades in the off season, too. So . . . I put in for the third week in July. That is when I went there last year, and the weather was gorgeous. It isn't humid like in Orlando, and most of the day was in the 70s - it would just hit the 80s for an hour and cool off again. My sister has to wait until her husband gets his annual bonus in February, and she's having some health problems. I may end up going solo again, which would be fine. I can't wait to get back to WDW at Christmastime. I'm hoping they run some more great sales later in the year. That will probably be a solo trip, too.

Ohhh that's a bummer that you are going to miss each other. I never knew that about the fireworks. It makes sense that they can't do them. Wow and no parades nightly?

I'm so sorry to hear about your sisters health issues. I hope shes getting better soon. Hopefully she will be able to join you. :goodvibes

And oh! I was looking at pictures of CSR and the new refurbished rooms are GORGEOUS!

I know! I think my decision is made

I think I would think of other things I could do with the $200 and think will I really spend that much time at the resort? I personally would go with the value. You could get something really nice for $200, maybe something from aribas brothers, or a nice piece of jewelry.

I agree. I'd use the money for a TS meal or a souvie that you had your eye on before but was a bit expensive. But thats just my opinion. :goodvibes

Haha so now I feel dumb! So I called Disney reservations to switch my resort to CSR and well first let me say I was on hold for 30 minutes because my ressie wouldn't open (I guess they are doing some computer updates). It was totally fine with me because I was just listening to the Disney music. :goodvibes So when my reservation finally opened she went to upgrade my resort and told me my new balance and it didn't match the price I was getting online. She said they were having some pricing issues and she would do it again. Still she came up with the same price. It then dawned on me why I was getting a cheaper price...I forgot to add the dining plan on the price I was getting online. So that $200 difference is really $403. Not such a good deal. The girl was so nice about it and understood why I would jump for a $200 deal but that wasn't the case. So needless to say I'm still at Pop which is still exciting none the less. Now to figure out how to spend the extra money!

I still keep going back to the Seaworld idea. I went there once when I was 5 and I don't remember it at all. I wouldn't really trust myself with the Lynx bus...my biggest fear is that I would miss the bus and be stranded. So looking at mears it's $18 roundtrip and they pick you up at your resort and drop you off at the gate. Another thing I like is you have them pick you up anytime you want.

Hmmm what to do, what to do.

Let me know if you switch over to CSR!

Lol you know the story! Didn't work out. haha

Check out my rotating banner! :dance3: :cheer2:  :yay: :woohoo:

Wohoooooooo!!!!!! How exciting!

Thanks for the insite! The switch didn't work out anyway.

Thanks for the opinion! I'm thinking seaworld now. :goodvibes

Sea World would be so much fun! I've never been anywhere but Disney in Orlando, I'd love to be able to take some more time and do some other parks, as long as I have enough time to do Disney! Go for SeaWorld! $18 round trip doesn't sound too bad for transportation.

Yea $18 dollars isnt bad. The lynx bus is like $1.50 but like I said I'm so afraid of being stranded. And I like the fact that Mears is there when you want them to be.
