Traveling to WDW at the beginning of July with my 5 year-old son. If you had to choose between Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, which would you pick, and why? Pros and cons to both would be appreciated.

The wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon is very rough, so I might lean towards Blizzard Beach with a five year old. BB has a great kids area too, and my kids always preferred it over TL.

We prefer TL over BB however my kids are older (14 and 11). We can spend hours in the wave pool, the lazy river, and sliding down Crush n Gusher. We all love the lushness that the park has, BB seems too concrete to us. The family slide at BB is the one thing that we really enjoyed at that park, and my DH really liked Summit Plummit, but other then that we would much prefer going to TL. But on the flip side, I do agree with the PP that the wave pool at BB is not as intense as TL, so for your son's age, you may want to consider it for him.

Typhoon Lagoon has 3 signature features:

The tidal wave pool
Crushin Gusher
Shark reef

But, none of the above are appropriate for a 5-year-old. Add that to the fact BB's family raft ride is 1,000X better than TL's, and to me it's a slam dunk. BB all the way for the under 48" crowd.

For a 5 year old. Blizzard Beach is best. My daughter got very bad scrapes on her knees and hip when she was 7 after being knocked down by the wave pool at Typhoon Lagoon. The first aid station told us it happens a lot with small kids there. I have not been back since. The other big attraction at TL is Crush n Gusher water coaster, but also too much for a 5 year old, I think. Blizzard Beach has better play areas for younger kids. It also has a much better family raft ride.

We enjoyed TL but frankly the wave pool is horrifying to me. Seeing a wall of fully grown men body surfing towards us was terrifying. I simply can't believe that there have not been a multitude of terrible injuries in that pool. Other than that, the grounds are lush and pretty and the other slides were fun. The lazy river is also really enjoyable.

You know I've seen a lot of kids in the Wave pool but it knocks your shorts off. Go with BB for now.

This thread has me rethinking my decision to go with TL over BB for our family of little kids.

I like BB better anyway. It has better theming and is less spread out. The top of Summit Plummet offers one of the best views of the whole property anywhere! BB seems better for younger kids too as the play area looks cooler and the wave pool isn't intense.

Wait, are you saying a sea of chest hair and moobs washing over you is NOT your ideal vacation?! Weirdo.

Very weird! Who doesnt enjoy hairy moobs in your face as your struggling to stay above water? :lmao: :rotfl2:

OP, FWIW, we prefer TL. We find BB too tiring, so much carrying of tubes and climbing uphill. We hated it there. TL wave pool is rough. But the waves run every 15 minutes only. So you have a lot of regular swim time. Plus, if the waves get too rough for your 5 year old, just stay in the shallow end.

I prefer the theming in Blizzard Beach (I just think "snow" and water is so cool :) My DH prefers the tropical vibe of TL (but then I grew up in a tropical country so snow is way more exotic to me).

My DD likes anything. My DS LOVES the crazy wave pool at TL. We all think Crush n Gusher is the most amazing water ride there is.

We like both but tend to do TL more because my DS likes the wave pool so much.
