Are there still refillable mugs given to you when you rent a Polar Patio? If so, are they the same as the resort mugs? I'm wondering if we should try and do this on one of our first days, then we would have them to use at our resort. It would feel wasteful for me if we bought mugs at the resort and then were given more when we went to the water park.

I can't say whether they are currently offering refillable mugs at BB since re-opening, but in the past those were only for use at BB on that day and would not work at your resort for free refills. If you want a mug to use at the resort you should buy one there.

Oh that makes sense! OK, so what if we bought mugs at the resort - would we be able to use those if we have a cabana at BB? I'd like to save on plastic if possible... unless the BB mugs are truly unique I don't think we need another set to bring home.

Resort mugs only get free refills at resorts.

Or course, you are welcome to just buy drinks in paper cups and pour it into whatever mug you have at any location. But they make money on selling the mugs, therefore you have to purchase a mug to get free refills.

Right but I think the mugs are included in the price of a cabana so i thought we could just tell them to keep the BB mugs and we'll pour the paper cups into our resort mugs when we are in a cabana at BB. Would that be frowned upon?

I don’t think that would work unless the free refills are served/delivered to you at the Polar Patio. If you have go to the food location to fill it, you’ll need the BB mug or you would get charged for a single fill in a paper cup.

The mugs at the water parks are RFID chipped which is what activates the drink filling station (was a Coke Freestyle machine last time we were there pre-COVID). A paper cup or your resort mug will not activate the drink machine, so no drink will come out. The mugs at the water parks are a different theme than the ones at the Resorts, so they are not a bad souvenir to take home, but I get not wanting double the plastic usage and double the mugs to try to fit into your luggage on the way home!

Someone on another thread said that they are now having you show your receipt to get a paper cup of drink refill at the resort for the resort mugs, and then you transfer it to your mug. If that is the case at the water parks (because of COVID, I guess they are not letting people use their own cups at the drink stations), then they may let you use your receipt for the cabana as proof that you should have a water park mug, and then give you a paper cup of your drink, and then you can pour it into your resort mug to keep it colder. Hopefully someone who has recently been will chime in!

FYI, BB is refilling mugs the same way as the resorts.... the drink machine is staffed by a CM, you show the mug, they fill the paper cup, etc. I assume a receipt would also work too like it mostly has been at the resorts (I wasn't going to mess with a receipt in wet swim shorts).

And yes, as the PP notes, they are a different style/type than the resort refillable mugs.

I don't know this with 100% certainty but AFAIK refillable mugs still come with the Polar Patio rentals.
