Having only been to Typhoon Lagoon 12 and a half years ago on my honeymoon I wanted to ask anyone experienced- Which children's area is better in your opinion, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon (we have 2 DD's 5 and 2.5). Thanks for your help!
:confused3

We've never been to Blizzard Beach but we took our 3 and 4 year old grandsons to Typhoon Lagoon in May and they loved it. It has a wonderful tots area with a small tube ride, etc.

My post is TL. The wave pool is the greatest for kids. Just be careful the waves will knock small ones down. :flower:

Definitely Typhoon Lagoon. I've been to both with my kids and though they like both, I thought there was more for them to do at TL. BB has rougher slides. My DD8 was afraid of some of them.

We took our DD 12 and DD 4 to TL and they both LOVED it especially DD4! They were both just loving the place and didn't want to leave! In the past 2 years we have tried 3 times to get to BB and each time it was too cold and rainy....BUMMER....but "WE WILL GET THERE!" :cool1:

I think that Blizzard Beach would be the best for your 5 year old because of the many activites you can do there. For instance, the little pool with the ice blocks and other little obsticle things. There are some smaller slides and it seems to be more upbeat. Typhoon Lagoon however would probable be best for your 2.5 year old because it is less upbeat and she probably wouldn't wan't and you probably wouldn't want her on the slides. The little play pool wouldn't be good for her either. So, if you wanted to only go to one water park, I would say Typhoon Lagoon because that way ALL of you could be involved. I myself am a fan of BB. I just LOVE the slides!!!

Okay, so now you are telling yourself, "This person just made me more confused. Why would she say all that?!!!" Sorry if I didn't help at all. :confused3

We like both! We have PAP and go to both often. Mostly we go to BB. Our children are 14 months and 11 years old. The 11 year old has 1 more year where he can be in the ski patrol area at BB. That's the iceberg pool the another poster had mentioned. And the poster is right, your 5 year old would love that area. There isn't much at ski patrol area for your 2.5yr old. Basically Dh and I just take the todler into the pool area there and he splashes about while we hold him.

For the toddler, either park is fine. BB has a fountain area that's fun for them. TL also has a little fountain area. The wave pool at TL is rough. There is no way the toddler or the 5 year old could hold there own at TL. The wave pool at BB isn't really a wave pool. It's like an agitater in a washing machine. In the shallow end, both kids would not get knocked over. If you get there early enough, there are innertubes to play with.

The family raft ride is much better at BB than TL. The one at TL is very short. The one at BB is longer.

There always seems to be more children at TL than BB. BB has more teens.

Both parks serve the kiddie meals in a pail with a shovel.

Both parks have the BBQ pork sandwhich that is our favorite.

TL has more shade, especially the pavillions near shark reef. There is more sand to dig at TL.

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more.

We took our children (12 yo ds, almost 5 yo ds, and 2.5 yo dd) to both water parks in May. BB was far, far more enjoyable for the little ones. It also was less stressful for dh and me! The children's area at BB has knee-deep water to splash in, squirting water toys, racing slides, a winding tube slide, and several short slides for the less adventurous (like our dd at first). What I really liked is that there were plenty of chairs (some even with shade!) within view of the area. Once the kids got over their nervousness and we made sure they wouldn't leave the area, we could sit back and watch them play. After a while, our 5 yo wanted to play with the "big kids." Dh and older db took him to the even larger pre-teen area. While he wouldn't be able to play in this area by himself (deeper water), he had no problem with just minimal assistance. He LOVED walking across the frozen "ice". Because our younger children were so well entertained by the kids' areas, they really didn't want to go to other parts of the park. They thought the big wave pool was cool, but we belong to a large swim club with a small wave pool at home. Floating around on the intertubes was relaxing for dh and me but just ok for the kids. 2.5 yo dd, not normally afraid of anything, was flat-out terrified by the family rides. Go figure.

Now for TL: I love the theming at TL. However, this park always seems so much more crowded than the other. (Despite it being early in the day, we were unable to secure life jackets for the kids here. They were all checked-out within an hour of opening.) I think it has something to do with how the seating is arranged in little clusters. The children's area here seems mostly geared to really little children. There are water-filled paths that meander around the area. During our last visit, the whole area was filled with adults. Many did not appear to be with children. I guess it was hot and they enjoyed the cool water on their feet. Our youngest got knocked down a couple of times by adults who weren't looking where they were going. Hello! This is the children's play area. If your childen like squirting water, this is the place to go. Just about everywhere you turn in the kids' area is something squirting water...cold water. My ds loved this, but my dd HATED it! There is one slide with a pebbly, concrete bottom. It's really tough to actually slide on this, AND it eats bathing suits. There is a shorter version of the tube slide here. However, during our visit, there was only one attendant to help the children. She was at the top of the slide. The water at the bottom was deep enough that I needed to be there for our youngest. It's tough to be 2 places -- top and bottom -- at once. (There were attendants at both the top and bottom at BB.) My final complaint is that it is very difficult to keep your eyes on 2 children here. There are too many places where they can get out of your view in just a split second. I felt like dh and I spent our whole day chasing after kids. Outside of the one kids' area, there wasn't much for our little ones to do. Our 5 yo loved the slide into the wave pool. However, the waves our strong and come so unexpectedly (and he has so little fear) that dh had to rush out to grab more than a couple of times. Our dd wasn't too excited by the wave pool.

Hope this helps!

Thank you all for your input and time to post to this thread! I have to say, from the looks of things, if the weather is good we will just have to try both-we are going to be there for 7 days and from what everyone is saying about their little ones having such a great time (and we paid for the plus tix) we might as well enjoy as much as we can!
Again, thank you all so much for your input, I never fail to be touched about how nice and sharing everyone on the disboards is!
:sunny:

I vote for BB. The "Tikes Peak" are is much better than the kiddie area at TL, also your older child will like the "Ski Patrol" area where she'he can walk across the ice blocks. The family raft ride is much longer at BB also. It's the longest in the USA. So that is why I vote for BB.

My kids prefer Blizzard Beach. Tyke's Peak and the Ski Partol Training Camp were perfect for them, while we rested between the bigger slides. They also really enjoyed the Toboggan Racers, because we could all race each other at once.

My younger one was knocked over, and into a wall, by a wave at Typhoon Lagoon, so needless to say he has no desire ever to go back there.
