Blisters again!

In 2009 we were in WDW and by the 2nd day I had blisters from my New Balance walking shoes that I wore all the time. I could hardly walk. We went to the gift shop at Pop Century and purchased a pair of Mickey Crocs and that saved the trip for me. We had 5 days left. They made walking better and I did not get any more blisters. Also after some time I did not feel the blisters I already had. We leave for WDW in 26 hours and I plan to purchase a new pair of Mickey Crocs while we are there.

While I didn't have problems with blisters I did notice the Mickey Crocs and wish I would have bought a pair when we were there last month ... envious that you are going in less than 26 hours ...

I got a really bad blister on Day One of my trip one year, wearing the workout shoes I thought were really well broken in! Frustrating. Luckily, I had brought other shoe options, and was surprised to find that flip flops worked best for me. I wear good quality flips, not cheap ones (mine are Nike brand); they're extremely comfortable, the top part is made of a neoprene-type material (similar to what scuba wetsuits are made of) and are very comfortable between the toes.

I've had pretty good luck with moleskin. Now that you know where you're prone to blisters (which areas of your feet, whether heels, toes, etc.), you can put moleskin on each morning to keep blisters from forming.

I know it's weird, but I've read that some people (like runners) use duct tape on their feet - it seems extreme to me, but they swear by it! A blister can't form where there's no rubbing against the shoe!

I've had pretty good luck switching shoes a couple of times a day.

The lanacaine gel has worked better for me but one year I did get horrible blisters and the bandaid advanced healing blister for fingers and toes worked great.

I got the blisters early in the trip but the bandages stayed on/waterproof gel material and cushioned the blisters so no more pain. You leave them on for a few days so you don't need to bring so many.

Best of luck!

I agree with some of the above posters. CROCS all the way...roomy, air flow (so less sweaty feet) and very cushiony. I wear them every year...no blisters I know they are not the mot attractive, so last yr. I bought a new pair with a white trim around the side that looked slimmer. Guess what? For the first time ever, I got a blister on each heel. Just today I went to the CROC outlet to scope out shoes for next trip and noticed a new label..last year's pair said "relaxed fit" and the traditional ones said "roomy fit".
Roomy fit=no blisters for me:banana:
Relaxed fit= blisters:confused:

Hope that helps! FYI...I believe the Mickey Crocs are roomy fit!

Body Glide is a bad idea.
I am an endurance runner. I have a lot of friends who are endurance runners... I don't know anyone who puts it on their feet. Glide is typically put where skin rubs skin or where perspiration is going to collect, evaporate and leave salt on your clothes to rub your skin literally raw.

You mention "good" socks but don't define "good." Good isn't thick, good isn't heavy, good isn't any of the qualities most people look for in a sock. "Good" in a sock for something like this is a wicking type fabric, synthetic or wool. NO cotton. If your feet stay dry, it's a LOT harder for them to blister.

Get some mileage in walking on the road. A treadmill is a LOT smoother and springer. It does almost nothing in terms of strengthening your body against what you will be asking of it.

Carry moleskin with you. The MOMENT you feel a hotspot, attend to it.

Finally, I know you probably don't want to hear this BUT...go to a running store and get fitted for some shoes. People who offer shoe advice who have not seen your feet, seen you stand or seen you move are the LAST people I'd listen to. Most people (especially ladies) buy their shoes too small. Almost everyone buys shoes for how they feel standing in the store instead of getting the proper shoe for their gait. Not to mention that if you wore the shoes all summer, they likely had lost most of their cushioning ability.

Thanks for all the advice! I actually started thinking about the Body Glide and the fact that the only time I use it is at WDW and that has when I have gotten blisters. Not sure what my socks are made of but I got them at a sporting goods store and they were supposed to be for running. I will look for the ones you mentioned before we go back. Now to find a running store in my area to look for shoes!

I am still trying to get my feet back to normal and it has been almost a month.

My last trip to WDW in August was the very first time I did not get any blisters, and I did use Body Glide (at the recommendation of a friend who runs marathons) and wore Keens the whole time.

My mom swore by moleskin, and I brought some just in case, but never needed it.

Good luck! I know how awful it is when you do get blisters!

My pleasure. One of the advanages of "been there, hurt that" is to help spare others.

The Glide induced blister was my one and only experience with it on my feet as well. My first half marathon, I saw mention of it...never from other runners but I figured it would be good insurance. My feet slid around inside my socks for 13.1 miles causing the very problem I hoped to avoid. ;)

The thing about shoes is that there are so many ways a shoe fits your foot...and all of them need to fit if you want your feet to not be hamburger. That's why something like my preferred Brooks Ravenna 2 might be absolutely horrible for you or anyone else. Pronation control, cushioning, arch support, toebox room, last shape, sole flex, heel trap, overwrap rigidity...all variables (and there are more) and there is no "right" choice except in the context of your feet.

The easy way to tell a good wicking sock is to look for cotton in the list of materials. It's always a bad thing. Socks that offer cushioning are usually not a good choice. The thick fabric absorbs instead of evaporates moisture and after all...cushioning is the shoe's job.

I do hope you (and others) find some of this helpful. WDW is so very very walk intensive that foot pain can put a heavy damper on the flow of magic...and no wants that.

I too have experienced blisters. I found that after showering, dry your feet well and spray all over, between toes etc. with antiperspirant, even the $1 can from the Dollar Store works. I always carry Moleskin, it’s a life saver if you do get a hot spot or blister. I need support for my feet and legs from all the walking. I love my Cleo Crocks, but there’s no support for my feet.

This works for me also. I do the exact same thing with the spray antiperspirant. Don't forget to spray the TOPS of your feet, too!

I always carry moleskin and put it on at the first sign of a hot spot. It really works! If you have a blister, put the pad of the bandaid on the soft, blistery skin and then wrap the whole thing with moleskin. The bandaid pad keeps the moleskin from sticking to the soft blister-skin, but the moleskin keeps the pain away and keeps new blisters from forming.

I am lucky... I can wear my crocs at Disney... and I DO!
