Body Glide is a bad idea.
I am an endurance runner. I have a lot of friends who are endurance runners... I don't know anyone who puts it on their feet. Glide is typically put where skin rubs skin or where perspiration is going to collect, evaporate and leave salt on your clothes to rub your skin literally raw.
You mention "good" socks but don't define "good." Good isn't thick, good isn't heavy, good isn't any of the qualities most people look for in a sock. "Good" in a sock for something like this is a wicking type fabric, synthetic or wool. NO cotton. If your feet stay dry, it's a LOT harder for them to blister.
Get some mileage in walking on the road. A treadmill is a LOT smoother and springer. It does almost nothing in terms of strengthening your body against what you will be asking of it.
Carry moleskin with you. The MOMENT you feel a hotspot, attend to it.
Finally, I know you probably don't want to hear this BUT...go to a running store and get fitted for some shoes. People who offer shoe advice who have not seen your feet, seen you stand or seen you move are the LAST people I'd listen to. Most people (especially ladies) buy their shoes too small. Almost everyone buys shoes for how they feel standing in the store instead of getting the proper shoe for their gait. Not to mention that if you wore the shoes all summer, they likely had lost most of their cushioning ability.
