Hey guys :) My mother has decided to set me up with a co-workers boyfriend's friend. I have never been on a blind date and I have no idea what to expect. I'm certain many of you have probably encountered them before, any advice for this youngin?

I've never been on a blind date before, but just be yourself and have fun. If you don't like this guy, you don't have to go out on another date with him, so just make the best of your date.

Just don't expect your blind date to be like the ones on the tv shows. Man picks up girl, they go out and try something totally new like boxing, they go get drinks, they walk the beach, dinner and drinks, clubbing then the hot tub. :chat:

The last ones I've been on (a long time ago) were in college, and we would just go to dinner and a movie or a sports game.

Have fun and be prepared to tell mom all of the details. :D
Maybe the guy likes Disney as much as you do, Good Luck.

Drive your own car. You want to have a way to escape if the date turns out to be really, really bad, lol.

I agree with Kelly. Make sure you have a way out, but go in with an open mind. I have gone on a few when a girlfriend's boyfriend brought a friend to visit for the weekend. (If you followed that..good for you!)

Most of all, have a fun time and tell us how it went.:D

Make sure you have your own money and a way home. :) But hey, it's a night out. You might enjoy it.

What she said. :) ::yes::

Just make sure if he asks you to watch the DVD of the movie Dumb & Dumber you run away as fast as humanly possible...

I went on a blind date once with a guy (mostly to get my friend who set me up with him to shut up and leave me alone about going out with the guy) and he not only made me watch that movie, but he recited it, start to finish along with the DVD. And he even stood up and acted some parts out.

What was worse...he knew parts of it in Spanish too. I was set up with a bilingual Dumb & Dumber obessesor. It was awful.

Chances are, your blind date will not be like that. :) But have a way out...just in case. ::yes::

One of my friends set me up on a blind date once. We've been together over 15 years now. I blame her and her dad.;)

omg...and I thought I'd been out some odd ones!

BUT...about a year ago one of my friends tricked me into a blind date by not telling me she'd invited him to dinner the same night she invited me (she didn't tell him either). A year later, and he and I are still having dinners together!:teeth:

I've only gone out on one blind date, and that was back in highschool! Anyway, I really didn't want to go, but did (to do my friend a favor) and ended up dating the guy for a year! :)

I went on a blind date 21 years ago. We will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in October.

the last blind date I went on was 27 years ago. We will be married 25yrs this November.

I like blind dates

You always have an out

You guys are the best. I've so enjoyed reading all your posts :) I will definitely take my own car. My sister went out with a guy she had just met and had him pick her up, my dad wasn't very happy about that (for good reason) so I've learnt my lesson through her. And I will definitely keep an open mind.
EsmeraldaX, I promise that if he pulls out Dumb and Dumber I will be out of there like a flash  Yikes, makes you wonder where and whom these people are with now.

if you aren't feeling it and he asks you out on another date, smile and say, "I just didn't feel any chemistry between us." Simple and honest...and you don't really know the guy, so no hard feelings.

And that way you don't have to "oh sure, here's my number" and then avoid his calls for 3 weeks. ;)

Some blind dates work out well. My aunt and her first blind date have been married 42 years now. Some are a nightmare. I suggest you meet just for coffee or lunch. Something intended to be short and sweet. Not really a date, just a meeting. That way if you really don't hit it off you aren't committed to an entire evening. I do suggest though that you give him a chance. If he seems like a nice guy but not necessarily your physical type or you like him but don't have a lot in common on the surface, give it another date or 2 before you back off. I went on a blind date 4 years ago. The guy was well over a foot taller than me (don't usually like that) real thin (like my men meatier) and didn't seem to have much to talk about (like them more outgoing) but he seemed nice and I had nothing better going on so I agreed to a 2nd date. And a 3rd, and a 4th. And then I married him. He's a gem.

There's a tag if ever I saw one! Poor Esmeralda!

My mother always used to tell me, "It's just dinner. You don't have to marry the guy AND you get a free meal." Excellent advice (she does know SOME stuff) but I'm pretty sure my mom would go to dinner with the devil himself if he was buying!

The devil may have some interesting stories about meeting deceased rock stars...

(just trying to look on the bright side...besides I'd pick the devil over the bilingual Dumb & Dumber fan anyway)
